in Canada we have Canada day on the 1st of july, and the 4th is a normal everything is open day. so i expect the brits to do the same.

Also our thanksgiving is not at the same time as the states

I’ve also been asked about Thanksgiving and 4th of July, to which I’ve answered “you mean do we as South Africans celebrate the independence day of the United States of America? No...” I really like to drive home just how fucking stupid that question is.

Sadly, most people don’t say Happy Independence Day. They say happy 4th which loses the value of the holiday. 12 out of 12 months have the 4th. Why is this one special? Who knows. We get to shoot fireworks and bbq cuz ‘Murica!
