Being so desperate for internet strangers to like you that you deliberately risk throw away your life... and not even trying to do a dry run to see if a book would actually stop the bullet? Not to mention doing that with a kid on the way. That’s the worst part.
FFS, there is NO universe in which you could stop a .50 round from a foot away. .50 cal is what that sniper used to punch a hole in 10" of concrete from a kilometer away. I know the weapon wasn’t the same, the ammo wasn’t the same, but a .50 cal round carries a hell of a lot of energy...

I don’t like the idea of taking kids from their parents. In many cases the people taking them away are throwing their power around far more than it should be. My sister damn near lost her kids over nothing. But in this case, I think it should be done. Not because of the mother—I’d think she’d be be too snake-bit to do anything else so colossally stupid—but for the mental health of the kid. So he doesn’t have to grow up with “my mom killed my dad”.

I don’t see that in the article about them testing the concept first. What a couple of idiots, and the bystanders as well, I’m all for personal responsibility, but WTF people? Didn’t any of them have any concept of what that weapon will do? And in what dictionary is something like this considered a prank? Maybe I’m confused, but wow, just wow. Those catchy headlines boy I tell ya. It’s like the time I found one of those spinner things under a customers rear seat and held it for them until they came to pick up. I had it at my desk and one of those coworkers saw it and said, “is that one of those fidget spinners? Pewdiepie of all people had a very good video about the fall of the media after they went after him recently. In short, context doesn’t matter. Find the catchy title so zombies can click on it, get the ad revenue then fill the article with anything that may or may not have to do with the title.
The stunt was dumb, no doubt about it. People’s reactions for it being specifically YouTube stunt/challenge that all the kids are out there trying is just so false.

I hadn’t gotten the impression that others were repeating the stunt. But I do think it points to a larger problem of people becoming so obsessed with getting affirmation from strangers that they are pushing the bar higher and higher. My 14yo son is hooked in Instagram. He’s constantly on it seeing if somebody liked his picture. It’s definitely pernicious.
