Kinja'd!!!

What about a Volvo that can walk a c6 z06 without breaking a sweat? My buddy bought an s60r about six months ago—stock—and has been going crazy with the upgrades. Constantly modding. Last I checked it was in the 520hp range, I’ll get more info on this beast next time we meet up.

Somewhat stretched tires because any wider rubs too much at the moment.

I am all for “wide body” Volvos!

The painted taillights? Ehhh.

Don’t care for standard Volvo’s but do like the mad ones

Crazy thing is we both showed up at the gym one day with a new car part purchase to show off... Wheels! By chance, we had both bought the same wheels (different sizes) for his Volvo, and my Miata. They’re wide, but the offset is pretty crazy too. I’m wondering if he’s going to do some custom flares.

Here’s what he tried at first. I like the blacked out look much better. But yeah, would personally stick with stock, or maybe a less extreme tint. Pretty nice taillight design IMHO

When they came out I wasn’t a fan of those taillights at all.

I’ve mellowed, I guess. I see what he’s going for.

I like this car, but “walk a c6 Z06" might be a stretch. It has 400+ lbs more, and all of 15 more HP? Probably does not have the torque to keep up, though. HP sells mods, torque walks other cars. It might keep up for a bit, at least, I guess, but it’ll mostly just see pretty ‘Merican tailights.

With the turbo it may have a fair whack more torque though. Or not... the LS7 isn’t any slouch in that department either (duh). Plus AWD for better launches.

That enough to deal with 400lbs? Dunno. I’d bet on it being friggen tight.

Agreed, this is typical tuner geek speak from people that bench race and have horsepower “estimates” for cars with no dyno tuning. No way that thing is walking a C6 Z06 without breaking a sweat.

I’m guessing here, because of what I know, but to put out the HP like that, the turbo is likely friggin yuge. If so, it probably has a bit of lag, unless some fanschey turbo was added, and the AWD would just accentuate launch issues to spool up the speed. I mean, I’m interested, and I like the car, but the LS7 is not so easy to walk away from.

TBH I don’t see anybody doing any walking here. Well, unless in a longer race maybe—there’s no way this thing could stand up to a Z06 down anything more than a quarter mile. More weight, more drivetrain loss and I’m guessing less revs than the LS7... and that thing just chucks out power from top to bottom.

...calls to mind JC’s test when Top Gear got one, where he hit 160mph from a dead stop on their runway... starting in 5th gear.

It might be close, but yeah, no walking, much sweating. I did a similar run in my C5 Z06, starting out in 5th gear from a dead stop. Torque for days!

I’m assuming non-working turn signals on that baby? Interesting use of resources, although the spoiler is a bit much. Admirable dedication, if anything.

Now, to take it to a dragstrip. Oh wait, barely any in this region.

Big Volvo fan. The fitment on those wheels pretty much ruins anything he may have been trying to accomplish. Would love to see a dyno sheet showing him actually making 520hp too. That sounds like a lot from a 2.5 L inline 5. Built motor? I bet the Honda Civic owner he jacked that wing from is pissed too.

Sounds (looks) like he killed all the Volvo parts of the car, should’ve started with an Evo if thats what he wanted.

I’d take my friends stock V70R over it.

Sorry ... I’m that guy.

“What about a Volvo that can walk a c6 z06 without breaking a sweat?”

Time out. 520whp? Or at the crank? Even at 520 at the wheels, we’re talking about a car that weighs around 3800lbs.

I mean, for comparison, a 2013 GT500 weighs about 3800 lbs and dynos around 600whp and they are neck and neck with a bone stock C6Z.

Does your friend have any times at the track, or are these just assumptions? Unless they are trapping around 125mph, they aren’t even keeping up with a C6Z

The seats were kept (because they’re heavenly) but otherwise it’s stripped. Plus awd of course. I’m taking his word on it, he’s a racer who’s not prone to exaggerating

Still has the seats! That’s 50% of what makes a Volvo, a Volvo.

I’m glad he got new wheels, because now now can buy the gorgeous stock 5 spokes from him for cheap...

I can’t imagine they’re particularly visible through that much tint but who knows... Possibly LED retrofit.

Truly a shame. I’m sure we’ll take it to pacific raceway at some point this summer though!

Kept the seats because Volvo, but otherwise it’s fairly well stripped! Rear seats come out when not needed

For what it’s worth, this guy is a racer with quite a bit of experience working with Volvo’s, who found his way into a very high paying job recently. Built engine, weight reduction, and one of the best turbos on the market for the power/spooling goals he was after

It’s fairly large, but it’s quick spooling compared to any other turbo that could touch it power-wise. Very nice unit from BorgWarner! I need engine bay shots...

I wonder if the local po-po will let that go. I suspect they tread lightly on nicer cars, but you never know.

I really want to see it against that hypothetical Corvette :)

I assumed you were talking about from a roll. My understanding is that these have weak transmissions as well, so I doubt he’s launching it hard.

I never bother to take a racer by their word. Timeslips, track times, dyno sheets, scales, videos. Everything is measurable in racing. It’s one of the reasons I enjoy cars so much.

I’ve known countless people over the years who have been completely convinced they’re quicker than X car. But until you actually do it, who’s to say if it will turn out that way.

Does he have a build or track times posted anywhere?

I think we all need engine bay shots. Seriously.

I just can’t imagine what spacers he must be running, or how much offset, to get the wheels to poke that far past the exaggerated body panels. Also it looks almost stock height. Dude needs an account on here, I have so many questions, starting with “why?”

Kinja'd!!! "AestheticsInMotion" (aestheticsinmotion)
06/29/2017 at 13:41, STARS: 0

No spacers, it’s a wheel 2 inches wider than stock with fairly extreme offset. That said it’s not a “stance wheel” by any means... Super light and strong, Just takes some work to utilize it to the fullest! I should know, I’ve got a set waiting to go on my Miata for track duties
