Kinja'd!!!

Remember at one point when GM just stopped trying? The Pontiac G3 was the literal embodiment of that.

I’m not even 100% sure why they felt the need to put their name on that thing. It’s not like the Aveo was enough as far as shitty tiny cars go.

Same deal with the Pontiac equivalent to the Cobalt. Just another car that didn’t really need to exist and didn’t really do anything besides slightly boost the sales that happened under the Pontiac name.

Both were garbage and didn’t need to exist, ESPECIALLY the Aveo/G3. I sold at Pontiac when this was out. I routinely talked people out of it. Thank god GM got their shit together with the Sonic. Damn near night and day.

There was a time when brand loyalty existed for the different GM divisions. I think GM thought this was still an influence on buyers at the time and wanted to provide an option for Pontiac buyers who wanted a version of the car from ‘their’ brand.

They were pretty much Daewoos that had no place being sold in the United States. They were also incredibly cheaply made and unsafe. I would never put a child in one of those and feel that they’re safe.

Exactly. I remember a couple wanted to buy one for the wifes mother. I told them on the spot that no senior would be safe with how cheap these were built.

They hadn’t tried since the 70's.

support Pontiac dealers - they needed something to sell when cash strapped folks came in...

The Aveo is the best car to do 360s in on a muddy dirt road.

On the bright side, that shit E-Tec motor had a timing belt presumably made of soy, so most have snapped and the people who bought these piles most certainly didn’t have the money to fix them, taking a lot of them off the road.

Here in Canada we got a 3rd version of that car. Which was really a 100% rebadge of the Pontiac and badged as a swift+

sadly, that POS was much newer than the 70s! Didn’t they sell the Pontiac LeMans till like 94?

A G3 GXP would’ve been awesome tho, 150 hp in one of those tin cans would be a rocket and a racket too

Swift+ Rebadged Pontiac G3 that was a rebadged aveo.

The Equator was a rebadged Nissan Frontier.

So that left Suzuki north-America with the sx4, the Vitera and the kizashi. When I bought my 2010 SX4 my dealer had one Swift+

I asked him if people actually buy those, he said no we try to sell the base model sx4 sedan before even showing these.

A G5 GXP would’ve been cool. A rebadge of the Cobalt SS turbo

Oh ok so the lineup there was identical. Suzuki was in a sad state before it left. The Kizashi was actually pretty good supposedly.

*sigh*

no, this isn’t an example of when “GM stopped trying.” This is an example of dealers bitching at GM to give them something to sell in a particular market segment.

Y’all keep forgetting that the automakers’ customers are the dealers, not you.

You’re right. But it was an example of when they stopped trying. i was at Pontiac when this was out. When you have sales people not even recommending a model to customers, there’s a problem. When we had heard about an G3 coming, people thought that it was some small sporty sedan. The G8 had given people hope. I remember telling people not to get their hopes up with the let down the G5/Cobalt was.
