Apparently if you download Firefox 12, most websites work fine on Windows 2000

I miss Win2k. So ridiculously simple, yet it still had everything I wanted in an OS

why is it that the previous version of Windows is always the best one?

Windows 8/10 released? “you can pry Windows 7 from my cold, dead hands!”

Windows 7 released? “I’ll never give up XP!”

Windows XP released? “Fisher-Price garbage! Windows 2000 forever!”

Windows 7 wasn’t really special, it was just that 8 was an abomination and so is 10. 2000/XP were the last time they were pretty good. WS2008/7 just happened to be endurable and weren’t their successors.

Also note that 2000 & XP had completely different targets. XP was a desktop OS, which 2000 was server & workstation. They were the same underneath. XP was the first NT based desktop after they killed the earlier desktop series (ME was the final).

You forgot Vista, btw.

the funny thing is Windows 7 is just Vista R2.

Vista was quite hated, too.

Modern versions are an extreme mess. They’re very cumbersome.

*shrug* I upgraded to 8, then 10, and don’t have any problems. but then I’m not afraid of change.

Because hipster :P

For real though, XP was a capable operating system which was very easy and relatively intuitive (not compared to a mac or Linux OS but, I digress), while taking up minimum operating power. XP was still conducive to do yourself repair and control. Now all the “real” control is hidden behind a shroud of idiot proofing.
