That’s...surprisingly reasonable. Subaru and VW territory, when I had expected it to be a bit closer to the cost of a V60. Interesting. Very interesting.

Edit: I didn’t read the article before posting. I could totally be an auto blogger.

Had the exact same thought. I expected the entry to be something around $35,000 - $37,000.

And that is MSRP...and you know nobody will buy one, so I’d say we’ll be selling what we have for $24,995 within months.

That would be a real bargain.

I know you jest, but I’ve seen VW dealers selling kayaks with Golf Alltrak’s. Usually you can negiotiate things like this into a car sale on popular cars if there isn’t much wiggle room in price. I got the dealer to throw in a bike rack for free to seal the deal on my Outback when we were the last couple hundred dollars apart on price.

I’m very interested in checking this out. There golf is too small for me (I’m 6'5" with 2 boys who are growing fast) and I don’t dig the Subaru aesthetic. I like the Volvo but hate the price. BMW 3 series don’t do anything for me, especially for the money.

With MSRPs in the mid $30k range, you will be able to pick up a reasonably loaded AWD wagon with 250hp. After rebates, it should go just below the average price for a new car. Not bad at all.

If Buick marketing people are smart, they’ll hype the shit out of TORQUE VECTORING ALL WHEEL DRIVE and not just all wheel drive.

I’m surprised at this - pleasantly so. I wonder how stripped down it will be to hit that price point. Since it’s a Buick, though, I imagine it’s still decently equipped?

I wish it were the non cladded version, but this will sell better anyways because it MIGHT be able to steal some of the subaru crowd.

That base price is nice considering its well equipped as is.

I’m not so sure about the details on this - take a look at current Regal pricing. The Regal starts at $28k, but that’s for a non-turbo, FWD car. AWD/Turbo starts at $32k. This thing should be at a premium to the sedan.

This suggests 1 of 2 things to me:

- They’re going to cut pricing on the sedan - this seems possible, given the way cars are selling (as opposed to X-overs/SUV’s)

- More likely, that $29,995 is for a FWD, non-turbo wagon, maybe?

That indeed is weird. But all the sources report about the base model recieving the 2.0 Turbo awd with the 8 speed automatic. Even weirder is that the bare bones Opel Insignia ST with the 1.5t starts at around €27,000 which is about $30,600 excl. destination charges.

Yeah, I ’ ve never heard any suggestion that it would be offered as FWD, at all. But there *is* a disconnect there - I cannot imagine that it won ’ t be at a premium to the sedan, of at least $1,500 or so.

I think the answer may be de - contenting it a bit. The AWD Turbo Regal starts at $32k, but it does have a leather interior (the $30k wagon doesn ’ t, according to the article you posted).

Perhaps what Buick will be doing is de - contenting the wagon a bit to hit $30k, which may mean that they ’ ll offer a lower content sedan to give you AWD/turbo under $30k? It allows them enough wiggle room to reduce the price without actually reducing price, and move more volume maybe.

I ’ m genuinely curious - I ’ ll be in the market next year, and this car merits some serious consideration for me —

That’s my theory as well. But the standard equipment sounds to be just enough for most people. And at $30k? Might be a really great value. Plus the Opel/Vauxhall gets quite some praise already. The parents of a friend of mine just ordered one.

For a $30k AWD turbo wagon, I can happily live without leather, or spend the money and get it. I like choices. And, it’s a Buick - it won’t have crank windows and manual brakes. :)

Hnnnnngg. Temptation is strong with this one. I don’t care if they have to skimp on the interior (hate leather seats)
