Toyota and Lexus DO tune their 4.7L V8 (2UZ-FE) differently.

Kinja'd!!!

The moral of the story is that they are mechanically identical engines but the Lexus versions get 2-3 more peak hp (5400 rpm) and 17-18 more lbs-ft (3400 rpm) than the equivalent Toyota at the expense of asking for 91 versus 87.

Do I run 91 in my GX470? Hell no. Not unless I’m towing.

is it going to hurt my engine? Nope.

Yup, and both are criminally detuned Because Quality

Well I can tell you one thing, it would be NO PROBLEM to get lots of power out of these engine with another 1000 rpm and a different map for the intake cam timing. I mean, the curve on these is hilariously bottom weighted. There isn’t really any power difference from 4500-5400 (redline)

I mean, I would certainly guess that being under lower stress has something to do with why they last so damn long. Other bits of my car may be falling apart, but after 170,000 miles, that 4.7 still feels like a new motor.

Are the curves any different between them?

as far as I can work out the differences are magic. 5 different cars with this engine make 5 different power/torque figures but ALL at the same rpms.

Well that’s interesting. Wonder if that’s down to small differences in accessory drag between models.

Well... yeah, even within the same brand, makers tune their engines differently for different models.

G6 vs Solstice, same LE5 2.4L Ecotec. Solstice is 91 recommended, G6 is 87.

Sure, sedan vs sportscar but In some cases it’s the same vehicle. I.e. land cruiser vs lx470
