I did 78% and pretended to be from Delaware. That still got me a better average than other Delaware drivers. And I know shit about your road rules, I just used common sense while being tired and slightly drunk. I didn’t even read all of the possible answers.

I missed this one:

Your Answer: A yield sign

Correct Answer: A stop sign

Ain’t that some shit. It even asked for my state (MI)!

1 wrong, the off the road thing, I guess I was thinking “grip the wheel tightly,” was “turn it,” which I’ll blame on reading it too fast.

Not all of these are right:

Kinja'd!!!

Especially this one! By law emergency vehicles are only allowed to pass you on the left. Especially on the freeway or highway. They will (and I have witnessed it) sit behind you while you are pulled over on the left shoulder and wait for you to move your vehicle. The driver can actually lose their job over that. So please for the love of god pull over to the right, not to the closest side.

When are you legally allowed to drive faster than the maximum speed limit?

Your Answer: When passing another vehicle

Correct Answer: In no situation

!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

but you are allowed to go faster than the speed limit if you’re passing on a two lane highway, but only while passing.

The Anti-Lock Brake Systems (ABS) system:

Your Answer: Makes your stopping distance shorter.

Correct Answer: Allows you to steer while braking.

I don’t really think I was wrong here.

74%, which coincidentally, is the average in New Jersey. some of those were bullshit, though.

It’s well known that ABS decreases braking distances, yet somehow that was the incorrect answer to the question of what ABS does.

87%, which I was disappointed with until I saw that the average for my age is 71%.

The question about who yields at a four way intersection was stupidly worded, so I got it wrong even though I know the right answer.

Kinja'd!!! "Urambo Tauro" (urambotauro)
06/27/2017 at 18:32, STARS: 0

Not at all. If there’s other traffic at the intersection in question, yielding to them while waiting your turn is probably going to entail stopping. You’re still taking turns, the main difference is that you don’t have to come to a complete stop when no one’s around.

ABS does not automatically decrease braking distance in and of itself. The system was designed to allow the driver to maintain control of the car during hard braking. Shorter braking distances were a benefit of better computers and sensors used in newer cars. When ABS was first offered on cars it was not a very refined system and would freak me out because I thought I had lost control.

Kinja'd!!! "Junkrat aka Rick Sanchez: Fury Road Edition" (realasabass)
06/27/2017 at 18:44, STARS: 0

ABS was first developed to help the driver maintain control of the vehicle during hard braking. It was pretty rudimentary when it was first introduced. I did not get that question so I don’t know what the other answers were.

Kinja'd!!! "If only EssExTee could be so grossly incandescent" (essextee)
06/27/2017 at 18:46, STARS: 0

The “correct” answer was “helps you steer while braking”

Really the correct answer is “prevents the wheels from locking and keeps you from skidding” but that wasn’t an option.

When you simplify the english for someone who isn’t knowledgeable about cars, yes it is correct. That means they’ve presented you with two correct answers and expect you to guess which one they’ve deemed the correctest.

Kinja'd!!! "Berang" (berang)
06/27/2017 at 18:54, STARS: 0

The problem is, that in certain conditions, ABS increases braking distances. Whereas, so far as I know, it does not decrease one’s ability to steer while braking under any conditions.

Speed limit is the key, that means just that, limit as in do not exceed.... do we really follow that, no, and is it safer to speed up and get done with the pass, yes, but the idea would be that if you can’t make the pass under the speed limit, then you shouldn’t attempt it... silly yes, but fact.

Kinja'd!!! "ateamfan42" (ateamfan42)
06/28/2017 at 14:29, STARS: 0

It’s well known that ABS decreases braking distances

If the driver is braking at (or just below) the threshold of wheel lock, then they are achieving maximum braking possible. Only if the braking pressure is increased beyond that point should the ABS system be activating.

So, strictly speaking, with or without ABS, a talented driver can stop in the same distance. What is significant is that braking distance with ABS engaged should be shorter than braking distance with locked (sliding) wheels. That condition is more likely in a panic stop, where the driver just slams on the brakes as hard as possible.
