as far as I can tell the only difference between the 2 terms is that one of them tells you how many wheels are driven, while the other tells you that no matter how many wheels it has, all are driven.

The way I see it, 4 double U dee implies some kind of off-road/trail capabilities, and ay double U dee implies otherwise.
