I've heard of a screw embedding itself in a tire

But not a whole screwdriver. This is the right rear tire on my dad’s ridgeline with what looks like a mini Phillips head embedded in the side wall. Amazingly since I noticed it and consequently kept the truck parked on last Monday the tire hasn’t lost any air

I had a big ass nail do a sidewall through and through like that years ago. It’s freaky stuff!

Replace it with a good tire, & keep this one as a trophy.

Unfortunately I just maxed my discount tire credit card but seeing as it’s my dad’s truck he will be footing the bill

That reminds me of a slide I have of a similar situation in a soldier’s head. Can’t understand how either survived.

How much rubber is that screwdriver behind?

I once swerved into a curb to avoid getting sideswiped by a road-raging Ram, and was left with a nasty-looking chunk of rubber hanging off of my sidewall. The chunk was probably about 1/8" thick (maybe a little more than that), yet still held air.

When I went to the Goodyear where I bought the tires, they told me that because of the sidewall’s abundant thickness, it was going to be just fine (so long as I wasn’t racing with it or anything). Sure enough, that was about 2-1/2 years ago, and the tire is still doing its thing.

You know I’m not sure but I’m also not sure how to remove the screwdriver without making it worse or losing an eye

TBH, I think it will slide out the way it slid in without any, shall we say, explosive decompression . I would still wear safety glasses though, just as a precaution. But before taking it out, you should be able to get a good sense of how deeply it pierced the sidewall just by looking at that rubber “sleeve”. It’s hard to tell from here, but it kind of looks about as deep as my tire’s damage was.

As for whether the tire can be saved or not, I’m not qualified to say. It should still be taken to a professional. Since this is probably a LT tire, I think there’s hope...
