Now that the firebird is running, I need to take the next step. Full detail. FULL detail. Paint is faded, needs a cut. Lots of decals I don’t want ruined, some I want restored if possible or replaced if not. Engine bay is cramped and dirty. Need a full underbody/chassis detail.

I tried a few searches and found a few places with 5 star reviews for getting neglected minivans clean, getting spilled milk out of corollas, and dog hair/feces out of Muffy’s RX350. But how do you find the real shops? The ones that deal with show cars, classics, and exotics?

Call a resto shop and see who they use or if they will do just the paint. It is late 70's-early 80's paint tech, not today’s stuff.

Start looking through detail forums. Otherwise i’d reach out to local cars and coffee groups, vintage clubs, or the general car club nearby. That’s how i met my local premium detailer (and now friend and occasional business associate).

Look on autogeek’s forum for people in your region that would be your best bet.

Try looking through detailing forums such as Autogeek or Detailingworld.co.uk (it’s international) and should have a section of detailers by state, county, etc... that may be able to help. Otherwise join the forum (there both free) and post a thread for a detailer in your area.

What city, state are you in? I can have a look but I’m off to work in half an hour.

As some others have pointed out, detailing is a bit weird in that highly skilled, highly competent, professional detailers are expected to give back to the amateur community by writing, posting on forums, etc. Their customers pay for their experience and time, because a high-quality detail takes fucking forever, and because a garage mechanic isn’t going to own 6 buffers let alone know which one to use. The best guys don’t feel threatened giving away their tips to get the best out of a two-bucket wash, and they’re the ones you want.

Look for a Swissvax distributor. If someone in your area has or uses it you found your detailer.
