Don’t put a double-DIN in a Ford Explorer Sport-Trac. Just don’t. The dash design will fight you every step of the way and require a few hours of massaging with a dremel tool. Ugh. Oh also BOSS head units are garbage. Not my choice because it wasn’t my car but dear god. No HPF or LPF settings to speak of (except on the sub output), clunky interface, rubbish equalizer, horrid instructions. Bleh. Still manages to sound far better than the stock radio for $100 and the bluetooth calling works stunningly well (Better than my expensive Pioneer. WTF?).

My Ranger has the same dash and I didn’t have much trouble putting in a Pioneer 2-din. Just the upper and lower lips of the opening needed to be trimmed off.

We put a BOSS (pop’s choice, not mine) double-din in the Ranger. Besides it looking completely out of place, it sounds like crap and I was willing to pony up for Kenwood headunit to go with Kenwood speakers we’ve installed. Yes, we had to trim the radio surround to get it to fit. When I get him that Kenwood, I’m picking up a spare un-molested surround to see if we can get a cleaner installed look.

Ugh, BOSS. It’s a pity because some of the cheap companies make some of the most attractive looking head units. They don’t look like horrible overdone discotheques. Especially Pyle.

Check these out. So nice and basic. Almost elegant. Pity they’re pieces of shit.
