Honestly not much to say. Absolutely love this thing. Power is excellent, accidental part-throttle wheelies are a thing. Range is excellent, 150+ miles per tank on the highwayhighway. Comfort is excellent, for me and a passenger. I can do a few hundred miles on this bike and still feel fresh and ready for more. A few hundred miles on the Harley was exhausting and made me a wee bit grumpy.

Oil changes are are about as hard as finding problems with kinja. Cleaning and lubricating the chain is a little more difficult than that, but come on, it’s not exactly Subaru spark plugs either.

Kinja'd!!!

Pacific coast highway? Yes please! This bike is constantly getting comments. I can’t help but wonder if there wouldn’t be so many if it were black or gray.

Kinja'd!!!

Is that the rock from the goonies!? Yes, yes it is. Only problem I’ve had was a missing circlip for one of the passenger pegs. But Motocorsa had one laying around and they’re not really out of my way, so no big deal. Other minor annoyances include a light buzzing/rattling I sometimes hear around 2k rpm at low speeds. I haven’t found anything loose, so I might stop by and get their opinion. And also how much it vibrates. That was the wife’s complaint more than mine, but at the same time she really liked it if you know what I mean!

She actually enjoys riding this bike with me as opposed to the Harley, which she hated riding. The lack of backrest scared her at first, but she has never feared she would fall of the back. The seat design/materials work together to be incredibly comfortable for a passenger and generally only allow them to slide forward under heavy braking.

Kinja'd!!!

Odo rolled over to exactly 2000 as I pulled into my driveway from a 250+ mile day trip out to and up the coast.

Is there a variant of this with a gear indicator? I swear I have seen one before. Maybe a different year or limited to a specific displacement.

Good to hear you’re still digging it. (although, can’t say I’m surprised....)

Still waiting on a side-by-side comparo between your harley and the monster... haha

I’m not sure, but it would be nice if it had one. The supersport has one. Not sure about other Ducatis though.

No correction needed just a base 1200 though.

Totally forgot about that! I’ll think about getting on that! Apparently they’ve already sold my Harley to someone else!

I think I saw one on a late model Hypermotard and maybe a big 1200 Monster.

It’s a must-have feature for me, due to lack of skill and a combination of OCD and easy distraction.

Was always curious how the passenger seat was on these. Would love to add one to the garage as the wife hates being on the back of my R6.

Mine is a 1200, so maybe an upgrade for S or R trim? Not having it doesn’t bother me much. I’ve never had a bike with one before so counting gears is second nature.

Sounds like it’s time to trade up! I’ve sat on the back and found it really comfortable too, though that was stationary by myself. That shell over the back seat only takes two minutes to remove and install, and fits in my backpack.

What year? It’s pretty new, right?

I have a bad habit of coasting/braking to a stop rather than downshifting, or just not counting. Suzuki and BMW I think got on the gear indicator bandwagon ages ago, but others have been slower.

2015. Bought it new a few months ago, it was a leftover and heavily discounted.

Gotcha. It seems most of the Japanese bikes have had them for a while already, even lower level ones.

The last Monster I was on was like a 11 or 12, with the archaic arch top LCD display. I see yours has the newer style. The one I recall while looking at a brand new hypermotard last year had an indicator, I swear.

I am almost to the point where an electric bike is somehow attractive - no gears to worry about :) Then again, in the dense stupid traffic where I live, riding on the street at all is losing luster fast, I don’t really do it these days.

Really not sure why this one doesn’t have it. Italian quirk?

So much range anxiety though! I put 2000 miles in this thing in two months. Good lunch doing that on an electric! Sure it would work for commuting, but I can’t afford two expensive bikes. Luckily for me, my commute is relatively free of traffic. But I get how street riding could lose its appeal. It’s one of the main reasons why it took me so long to get back into motorcycles after moving to the city, the fear of traffic and the stupid things people do in it.

I really need to go to the Duc dealer by me and take a few for a test ride. Only ever riden an inline 4, curious how the twin feels and rides. Good to know the wife would like the back seat more!

Maybe just an update. At least yours has the updated cluster, the old one reminded me of a handheld Tiger video game I had in 1987.

1000 miles a month has to be in the top 1% for Ducati riders. For as bad as things are in Oregon, I think they are 10x worse in the Seattle area. Too many people, not enough roads, not enough enforcement.

The 821 monster has that old school game looking display too, but I don’t recall if it had a gear indicator.

They had a used 14 or 15 model year monster 1200 with almost 20k miles! A lot of multistradas get a lot of miles too. I’m sure you’re right about Seattle, I’ve only been up there once or twice, just passing through. I’ll be in auburn Monday night though!

I don’t think the old style display had an indicator.

20K is high for a late model Monster. Of course, the dual sport/adventure bikes get the mileage, those attract the hardcore. I’ve seen BMW GS that average 15K+year. You have to be committed and somewhat brave. Goldwings I think win the mileage award, I have seen several well over 100K. Not my kind of thing though, too big.

I assume you’ll be in the E55.

If I had the free time I could totally do 20k in two years on the monster. It’s plenty comfortable enough. You’re right about those big touring bikes though. Not my thing either, obviously.

Nope. I’m not driving. 6 of us are taking a friend’s R350 up for the rise against/thrice/deftones show.

I’m also not a wet weather rider, I doubt I could do it. Seems I never even hit 4K, and nowadays, I am less into it. Maybe if I ever move.

W251 seems to have a following with relatively younger people, I guess the later ones aren’t so troublesome. I’d want a diesel or AMG, however.

I can understand that.

They’re great! As long as you know what you’re in for. I’d probably fall into that younger people crowd (31 next month), and my friend who’s driving Monday is about 40, and he loves his.

As a CUV alternative, it has some merit, and I am sure it is supremely comfortable. As with any MBs of that era, I assume the newest one is best.

I’ve got just about a decade on you, and I am already in old man mode. I’ve had 2 AMGs, but don’t really pine for modern ones anymore - they waste away in local traffic, and maintenance isn’t exactly free. I drive a diesel W212 and am happy with a Sunday drive in the fintail.

You got it.

I don’t either, mostly because the maintenance is so expensive. If I were rich it would be a different story though. 212's in general are excellent.

Yeah, I haven’t read too many horror stories about 212s on various forums. MB seems to have regained some of the old quality, pr0bably the closest thing to a 124 since those were current. As with most MBs, the design will age well, too.

torque moved down the RPM range. the lunge you feel when you are over the 10K rpm line? its moved down to 3K rpm
