There’s not much else to do on the IoM.

Bitching about Clarkson is mostly done by celebrities who aren’t interested in cars and find it ridiculous that others could be.
We tend to bitch about tourists clogging up the roads, wondering where ever the hell they feel. Their arrogance, obnoxiousness and stupidity.
Generally, tourists.

I think Clarkson has a special gift to put a show on cars. The problem is when he starts talking (jokingly, in theory) about something else.

Celebrities are celebrities.
Madonna was the worst. Not only blocked a ramblers right of way but had large fences built round Guy Ritchies estate.
Clarkson doesn’t do just cars, though other celebrities attack him about it because he’s an easy target.
He loves history on wars and engineering and it shows in his documentaries.

Re: Clarkson, I know. I’ve seen his programmes on Brunel, the VC or the patrol boats, for example, and they were excellent. He really should do more of those.
Oh Madonna... I didn’t know about that, but... let’s just say I am not a fan.
I do acknowledge she is ambitious and has worked a lot for what she has achieved. Whether I appreciate the results is a different matter altogether.

U.S. celebrities tend to be the worst.
They tend to think that because they have money and bought a house they can do anything with the house or land. It gets the backs of neighbours, councils, planning authorities, English Heritage, etc... right up. And because they’ve just gone out and done it, they sometimes damage historic items that can never be replaced.
The Clarkson situation was very small. Just a couple of people or so complaining about not much, but because it was Clarkson the news ate it up as ‘Clarkson again ruffles feathers, etc...’.
