Kinja'd!!!

New to me, 2003 Super Air Nautique.

Spent the weekend largely in the boat. My family absolutely loves it, as do I. The dog, too. This will be ours for a very, very long time. I’m so excited about it, I’m exhausted but still up researching various little things I want to do with it... so I’m sharing a couple pics and going to bed.

Cheers, goodnight.

Probably a mercury marine v6 or v8

Thank you, yeah the color definitely helped push me to buy it now although we weren’t quite ready.

Engine is a GM 5.7 block, messed with by PCM (pleasure craft marine) for about 33ohp. Revs up to around 5500 RPM.

Thanks, I think so too of course! Big part of the reason we jumped on it now. It was only 90 minutes away from me, and hadn’t been ruined by anyone yet.

Close! A V8 for sure, GM 5.7-based, but it’s a PCM (pleasure craft marine) - Correct Craft has been using PCM forever; if it were just about any sterndrive, you’d be dead on - Mercury or VolvoPenta is 99.99% of the market for power in those. Merc does make ski boat engines but they’re in the minority for sure in that market. Indmar, PCM, and Ilmor (exclusive to MasterCraft) make up the majority there.

Thanks! I’ve for sure never had so many long looks from other boaters. Maybe when I was driving a customer’s wooden boat when I worked at a marina, those always get heads turned.

The best was reactions from people who know me and have known my boat, I’ve had the same one for the past 12 years and it’s like a part of my identity. So I’d pass someone in the river and they’d go, hey, nice boat WAIT WHAT IS THAT YOURS? Big smile on my face, yes, yes it is.

I know it’s already been said, but it can’t be said enough. She is gorgeous. You picked an absolutely beautiful boat. I have never seen that color combination before and it makes for a very striking look on the water. Enjoy it!

Show us the dash! Does it have tanks? How big?

Thank you. I agree. I’m not sure that with a blank slate I could come up with a better combination. And the top deck being colored, that was an option for a limited few years - they went to all white the very next year. I’m sure it’s been offered again since - probably including current boats - but anyway.... thanks again. We are enjoying it thoroughly.

Kinja is being weird, go figure. Anyway this should work. The hour meter, you might notice, says 3840 + hours, which is clearly not right. The boat is more like 500 hours - 3,800 hours would show, and this boat doesn’t have that kind of time on it. They replaced that gauge at some point and the hour meter inexplicably read 3,700 something at the time.

The ballast is 2 x 275lbs in the stern, 300lbs in the center; it’s the larger of the two factory options for ballast I believe. It throws a very nice wake with that all filled. For surfing, I hear a gate is the way to go; it takes a lot of weight in the right places to achieve the same thing as a small homemade suction gate.

Very pretty time for Nautiques.

I agree; I might not ever sell this thing. I kept a totally imperfect boat for 12 years. And 12 years from now I’ll be putting kids in college, so a new boat isn’t likely to be in the budget....

Nah, all boats are just sinking... it’s a matter of how quickly. That’s a saying I picked up working at the marina for 8 years. It’s inevitable yet largely preventable....
