In a week or so, I’m going to start Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for my GAD (Generalized Anxiety Disorder) and mild Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD).

I’m on two different medications and still having unexplained anxiety. I just get nervous and uncomfortable for no reason. Heart flutters. Rapid heart rate. Racing mind. Sweating. Etc. Sometimes, I’ll have a thought that scares me (what ifs type things) and I’ll obsess and get nervous and about make myself sick.

It’s totally out of my control, which I think is the most frustrating part. My doctor tried to put me on a third medicine recently and I finally said “No.” Two is enough.

CBT has a huge success rate with GAD, so I am hopeful. I’ve dealt with anxiety my entire life and I’ve been on medication for it since 2004, so I am ready to get it somewhat under control. Especially now that I’m a dad. I can’t be the best I can be with my kid if I’m struggling with this all the time.

Pic of my car for your time.

Good luck. We are dealing with this in our family. It’s not a trivial thing.

Do you use the mindfulness workbook yet? It has helped the wife with not only anxiety but with just making better decisions in general. Good shit.

Best of luck!

You are doing fine! You are a dad and you provide enough for a good home and two flashy rides in the driveway. Questioning oneself is natural with people who are a tad more intelligent than a plant. Lisa Simpson once made a graph about that.

Do you know the “Münchhausen Syndrome” aka people just doing their job, while fearing to be exposed as a scam?

People think that I am doing a great at my job, the boss (headmaster) just told me so this week, but there are still those little voices/thoughts in the back of my head...... One day....... They will find out......

Nobody is perfect!

I had a panic attack in the Guggenheim Museum in 2009 - GF chased after me onto 5th Avenue as I panicked and hailed a taxi. All I knew was that I had to get out of there. I haven’t had anything similar happen since then, but I can understand what you’ve been going through in my own limited way. Stick with the program, and keep us posted.

Hmm, never in a museum for me, but I’ve definitely had to get out of the Trader Joe’s by 72nd. Was especially bad during the pre/post-Sandy crush of people.

Hope it helps, it’s supposed to be good. I really need to find a therapist who does it.

Fairway forever ... at least I don’t have to put my cart on a cart-scalator ...

Aww, I like those cart-scalators (though I never buy so many groceries at a time I need a cart, had to carry that stuff 15 blocks.)

I’ve heard good things about CBT. The brain is so cruel when it doesn’t work right. Good luck.

The reason CBT is the first go-to with most mood or anxiety disorders is because it works. The hardest part for me was to trust that it would work and not talk myself out of it. Major depression and anxiety can do that to you.
