Kinja'd!!!

This beast is HEAVY! Good thing I wasn’t buying by the pound. Only $5, but I don’t know what I’m going to do with it. It’s not the Revox my dad used to have, but close enough...

Hey, I think I have that book underneath it somewhere. It has huge gatefolds, doesn’t it?

Reel to reels are cool. I’ve never actually heard one being played or seen the reel tapes sold anywhere.

That is an awesome open reel deck (I have a free-standing Teac). The silverface pioneer stuff is usually pretty good quality, too.

I remember AKAI, Sony, Tandberg, Nakamichi, TEAC, and many others ... you used to have 4 choices from Columbia Records - RtoR, 8 track, LP and, later, cassette.

The 707's are very nice units. They are pro grade units, used for mobile production. You can record each channel independently. You can still get some of the parts if yours needs any. I got to repair it’s big brother, a 909, last year and it was a treat. The 707's are worth from $200-$400 depending on condition, and you can still get parts for them.

I just got home and looked up prices on eBay and was somewhat surprised to see the value; it’s right in line with what you stated. I’ll need to find some tape to test it out; my local electronics store didn’t have any, but I’ll keep an eye out at the Goodwill outlet since I frequently see these items over there (usually mixed in the the 8-tracks...)

Oh yeah, I still have a bunch of vintage audio gear, and have to resist the temptation to pick up more. Years ago my folks changed stereos and gave me the components that didn’t sell at the garage sale. I still have a Marantz 2240B, a Dual 1219 turntable, a pair of Tannoy Orbitus-1 speakers from that sale; the Advent speakers, Advent cassette deck, ReVox A77 reel-to-reel and the other plasticky Dual turntable sold.

I do have a few other older components around here, including ‘70s-vintage Yamaha CR-440 receiver and higher-end cassette decks. There have been a few interesting thrift store finds, such brands as A/D/S and Nakamichi, but I figured that I’ve got enough equipment around here that I’m not using. The Fisher rack system doesn’t really count - I only wanted the rack, but I had to purchase the entire system, components included. No big deal - I was only out four bits for the whole thing...

All my vintage stuff is gone - got a Sony home theater thing hooked to the teevee, Jamo speakers (excellent) from the 90s, and a crap TEAC turntable. I do not live alone, so my ability to collect new things is, shall we say, limited.

Yeah, I fear the day when my girlfriend says she wants to move in with me. I’m trying to put off that discussion until I buy a house so that I can have a basement to myself for all of my crap. I may have about 1,200 sq ft to myself, but there’s really not a lot of room for anyone else in here with all of my stuff, and I figure she’ll want to bring her stuff along...

We are two people and two cats in 600SF ... 1200 does not compute.

Yeah, if you’re in Manhattan I bet it doesn’t. And everyone says I’m paying too much in rent at $875/mo. I was paying $1360 for a smaller place in LA (with rent control - market rate was about $2,600/mo), so this seemed like a bargain by comparison. Hopefully when I buy a place I can get the mortgage under $500/mo which wouldn’t be unheard of here.
