You can also reduce the weight further with rust... just spray it with salt water

To be honest, it was discussed :P

It’s getting a TCI subframe/torque arm back half, different fuel system requiring some changes to the floor, and we were originally planning for a mini-tub setup (that got changed, oh well). On paper, parts and labor to rebuild rusty here was a couple grand cheaper than buying a complete body and cutting it up for the rear suspension/minitub. The parts order to pick up the rear rails, rear body, wheelhouses, quarters, rockers, and trunk floor wasn’t bad (just obscenely large, and shrink-wrapped into a tower on a pallet). The center section (floor/firewall) is OKish, just needs a couple front footwell patches.

We’ll tack a jig together from factory specs to keep everything straight during reassembly.

Lightness is great and all, but...you gotta have wheels, tires, an engine, seats and other stuff.

Takes too long. Plasma cutter much quicker.

The rust on this thing was hilarious. The left fender was about an inch thick with mud near the front bumper, the rear of the fender no longer attached, just flapping. The right quarter had rotted above the wheelhouse. Someone had tin-snipped some galvanized stove pipe open, hammered it flat, riveted it over the hole in the quarter down into the wheelhouse, and slapped a half inch of body filler on top. A few years later (presumably) the outer wheelhouse disappeared, along with the trunk floor extension, and the back three feet of the quarter just flopped around like a sheet of paper.

Geez... I would write off something like that as just parts car.

Are you restoring it because you like the challenge?

It’s a customers car we’re restoring/upgrading. It was his 1st car, he preferred to rebuild it as opposed to just buying another and building to suit.
