Kinja'd!!!

Im not going to pretend that I don’t go to fast food joints, because that would be a lie. When I do, I always try to go inside even when I’m picking up food to go. Why? Three reasons, I like controlling the ice to beverage ratio. But primarily it always seems to take 10 minutes because I’m stuck behind someone in a Chevy Tahoe that is ordering enough food to feed an army, but also has never seen the menu before. Then as a result I’m stuck idling, which in a best case scenario is in my Mustang and it feels incredibly wasteful.

For fast food there should be no drive thru and the parking lot should be a 10 walk away

I’ve gone to McDonald’s in the morning when there was 10 cars in the drive through line, and cashiers standing around twiddling their thumbs inside the store. Going inside saved me 10 minutes, easy.

People are lazy.

10 minute walk I’m assuming? Makes it a bit of a crunch if you’ve only got a 30 minute lunch break.

Yeah they are. Although I also think people like the anonymity of it. Its like going to confession. Your food sin is between you and the cashier.

That’s not exactly catering to your core customer base.

A couple of the McDonalds near me actually have two ordering lanes specifically to try to solve this problem.

Of course, it just means that you get stuck behind two Tahoes.

I prefer going inside to order too. I don’t think the drive thru saves any time. And I also feel like you get better customer service by going in and ordering at the counter.

Also...I like to order things differently. For example: at McDonald’s I like to get a Big Mac but no pickles, substitute tartar sauce for the Mac sauce and get Swiss cheese on it. There’s an improved element of accuracy when I’m face to face with the staff. This is especially helpful at Taco Bell. They are WAY less likely to mess up your order if you are there looking them in the face.

Drive through menus need to be limited. Maybe four choices of the most popular food, drink and side types. That stops these dummies from holding up everyone that actually knows what they want before driving up.

Another nit to pick. People that think it’s OK to balance their checkbook in the lane at the supermarket. You’re paid up and groceries have been bagged. Do the accounting in your car! Waterboard these jokers on the spot!

The double drive thrus suck, they just create a traffic jam as the people in the outside lane and inside lane try to converge into one to get to the pay window, and nobody ever wants to give an inch. Plus, same number of windows, so I don’t know that it actually is any faster, even when everything works properly.

Drive thrus should be like the express lanes at grocery stores, maybe have the limit be like 4 or 5 items or less, otherwise “I’m very sorry sir/ma’am, please pull through and we would be happy to serve you inside”.

I don’t do drivethroughs, I can’t stand ordering through a microphone with the audio quality of a 1920's telephone during an electrical storm. I’d rather just go inside and talk to a person where I know they can hear what I’m asking for.

The line’s usually shorter, too.

I live in Florida where it’s too hot, and whenever I sit in a drive-thru line I’m burning gasoline to go no where at all, minute after minute, and it’s too hot and I’m adding to the heat, and breathing that guy’s hot exhaust too, and paying gas money to do so too, plus worst of all one time a long time ago when I was way out of town my head gasket let go as I idled in a drive-thru, so I associate drive-thrus with trauma .

I suspect that it’s slightly faster, as it’s somewhat resistant to ordering bottlenecks - basically, a Tahoe can cause the entire line to back up before getting to the windows, whereas a double line at least gets two Tahoes ordering to reduce that bottleneck, and from what I’ve seen, that’s usually enough to make the windows the bottleneck.

Of course, there’s always the way Rally’s/Checkers does it:

Kinja'd!!!

Two completely independent drive-through lines. Problem with that one is, the left line is awkward to use if you don’t have a passenger, so the right one gets clogged.

Haha, I feel the same way. There’s hardly any advantage to going through the drive-thru. It’s rarely faster. Maybe it’s just the novelty of not having to get out your car.

I prefer to go inside because they never get my order right when I go through the drive through. I thought it was just me, but I’ve had my wife and my daughter try to order and it still gets screwed up. Any deviation from the standard throws their little brains into neutral. Of course, EVERYONE in my family wants something that isn’t standard.

Bah. Just give me a number one with a coke and call it good.

No kidding. Everyone these days seems to feel entitled. They can’t understand that a drive through cashier is entry-level work with entry-level pay. There’s something wrong when the school’s lawn guy makes almost as much as the teachers.

Right?!? And it’s honestly the restaurant with the least amount of variables involved in the food items. Everything is essentially the same. Beans, meat, tortilla of some sort.

They screw something up nearly every time. You almost need to go in pre prepared to get disappointed with something.

Kinja'd!!! "JeepJeremy" (jeepjeremy)
07/20/2017 at 21:06, STARS: 0

Good point. I think that has to do with the fact that they’ll make 100 tacos in a row w/ lettuce but then someone will order one w/o and it throws off their rhythm. Maybe.

I go no lettuce too. Their lettuce is crap.
