1999 Pontiac GTO Concept, what I believe would inspire the beloved ‘06 Camaro concept.

I think the similarities stem from them both taking influence from the first generation F-bodys. The greenhouse is almost exactly the same and they both share a general shape.

I do wish something like that ram air hood would’ve came to the ‘maro but those were always Pontiacs (RIP) additions to the F-bodys.

That is a very 90s concept car.

I know the 2007 (?) Ford Interceptor Concept ended up becoming the 2017 Lincoln Continental.

And the 2000 Audi Rosemeyer Concept became the 2005(?) Bugatti Veyron.

I’ll have to remember this Pontiac Concept for my random knowledge bank.

Yeah I’ve noticed it before, it seems like the automaker will go back to past design studies or concepts, especially if they did well and became unused. In this case the GTO went on to look nothing like the concept and the Camaro idea was making it’s way around since ‘04 was it’s last year. Someone thought, we have that old gto concept and after some serious modernization we got the ‘06 ‘maro

The Veyron concept actually predates the Rosemeyer concept by a year.

The 1999 Veyron was called the EB 18/4 Veyron and had a three bank W18 (as did the EB 18/3 Chiron, EB218, and EB118 that came before it). When it was shown again in 2000 it was fitted with a two bank W16 and called the EB 16/4 Veyron. The 16/4 shares the same drivetrain as the Rosemeyer.

I forgot about the Interceptor. Somehow the Conti doesn’t quite capture the magic. It’s so close but just not there.

The shorter hood dictated by the FWD platform and the higher greenhouse throw the proportions off a bit, but looking at the two like that, it is pretty darn close.

It is close. Ford did put some serious work into her and it ended up pretty nice. Have you been in a new Taurus?

It may just be me. But.. Lincoln, Buick and Cadillac seem to be doing the bare minimum just to get by. Like a C/D student in High School.

Not the new, new Taurus that’s China-only, but my boss has one as his company car. Showings it’s age in the interior, but it is a decent car, despite the lack of room for a full size. He prefers big cars, but is resigned to getting a Fusion next when the Taurus goes away.
