Someday I’ll be able to walk into a Salvation Army, see a neat old Snapper lawnmower for $30, and not buy it. I hope that day doesn’t come for a while though, cause this thing is awesome.

I’ve had my share and probably the next two guys’ shares of Snapper Hi-Vacs, but I’ve never had one with a) a Wisconsin Robin engine, 2) a 2 stroke engine, and D) a Pac N Sac bagger. I’m honestly not even sure of the point of it, because the regular Hi-Vac bag is probably the finest push mower bagging system ever created...give me a Hi-Vac with a Snapperizer and I’ll show you the ultimate fall cleanup tool.

I’m not too sure of the engine. It’s not stuck, but it’s tough to pull over...I’m going to stand it on end and put some Marvel Mystery Oil in the cylinder, see if I can’t free it up a little bit before I fill it with gas and oil. I think even if the engine was totally stuck I’m going to make money on it, so that’s good.

Anyway, that’s the dumb thing I bought today. Any of you guys buy any good dumb shit lately?

bought a 1999 corvette. That was pretty dumb. 90s GM vehicles are all dumb.

My folks had a Snapper with an aluminum deck and a two-stroke a little older than that as a cleanup mower - it got named Bessie because grass-eating and noxious farts, or something .

Other than a service manual for the Lincoln and a dashboard hula, I have not bought much good dumb shit in a long time. Must do better.

That’s the lawn mower I used to mow my parent’s lawn with! Ours had a briggs and stratton engine though. Good find.

Oh my goodness, that is the exact mower we had when I was a kid, so it’s the one I learned to mow on. We sold it at a yard sale in 2005. You’re not close to NW Alabama, are you?

A buddy of mine who works on mowers refers to Briggs engines as ‘balls and scrotum’. I’ve only ever had Snappers with Briggs motors, though I’ve got a nice Kawasaki 6hp in my garage...

I think that’s the mower equivalent of buying a car where the AC ‘just needs a recharge’.

Yeah, who knows where ours is now. My dad used to go on and on about how good of an engine that Wisconsin-Robin is. So maybe it’s still going around here somewhere. Haven’t thought about that mower in ages; thanks for the blast from the past!

I just found out it’s a 1990 model year. This can only end one way. Badly. Oh well only costs fuel and time.

Oooh, nice! Deeres of that vintage were really good tractors, in 1985 it would have set you back $2000 or so. You could get it to run and flip it if you were so inclined, they’re still well regarded tractors.

I’ll see how it goes, they live 30 miles away, I don’t have much room to work on it at my house.
