Description

Listed here is a Never Raced Grant King 1969-1970 Prototype Indy or F5000 Race Car. This Race Car is believed to be the Car that Eddie Kuzma copied to build the 1971 Brawner/McGee Scorpion Indy Cars. The Car was specifically built to run a 4 Cam Ford 32 Valve Indy Race Engine. This Race Car is in Unrestored All Original Excellent Condition. A California Resident Buyer will be required to pay California State Sales Taxes. The New Buyer will also be responsible for paying Race-Cars.com’s Sales Commission on the Car.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Apparently the Race Car was not completed in time for the 1970 Indy 500 and ultimately became obsolete. The Car was on display at the Valvoline HQ for 15 years then returned to Grant King. The Car was sold by his Widow after his death.

Kinja'd!!!

Asking $50,000. What kind of engine would you put in it?

2.3L ecoboost from Boostang/FoRS or 2.0L ecoboost from FoST.

A 1.8L flat6 from a Goldwing (& sequential transmission), then get as much N/A power from it(cams, heads, etc). The flat engine keep the CG low.

Counterpoint. Alfa Boxer engine out of a 33.

It’s light, it has a low centre of gravity, it can be fitted to a rear-engine car without much trouble, and anything with more than 100 hp in that thing is way beyond what I can handle already.

Also, the Alfa boxer sounds nice.

I don’t know the specific engine, but it would definitely have “COSWORTH” on the cam covers:

Flat plane 5.0 new Ford. It’s 32 valves. Revs nice, sounds nice. Foyt (#14 himself) bought the Ford indy motor project back in the day and won with them in 77. So, a nice modern boss motor.

Isn’t Hayabusa the answer to this question for just about everything? Or LS.

Kinja'd!!!

This needs a Hayabusa-based V8 of some kind. That should work nicely.

I dunno, my formula 1600 car has more power than that and this car has MUCH bigger tires. Even without aero it should be able to handle at least 300hp. Granted, this isn’t a good car for someone who isn’t already a confident driver.

I’m sure it does sound good though!

I believe that’s the Cosworth DFX, the turbocharged IndyCar version of the dominant DFV F1 engine. It was just as dominant in IndyCar as it was in F1.

Subaru EJ207 version 7, you can lock out the center diff and the STI 6speed will make for a good “transaxle”, just have to figure a linkage out.

Should be able to get the engine and trans for about 7k, you can run it off a bugeye ecu, which is early and dumb enough to not mind being spliced into something weird. Put a carberry ROM on the ECU and you can use flex fuel and full on anti-lag.

Tune it up on the stock bits and E85 and you’ll have about 300-350WHP, Throw forged internals and a big honking turbo plus supporting mods and you can crank it up as high as you’d ever want to.

If you were going to really race it you’d want to add a drysump which there are several options for costing between 3-6k.
