2018 Ford Expedition Pricing reveled

The 2018 Expedition officially starts above 50 grand this time around. Starting price for the base standard wheelbase XLT is $52,980. That’s cloth seats people. The long wheelbase Max XLT starts at $55,580.So you’re paying $2600 for 8 inches over the standard wheelbase. And prices go up from there: The Limited trim is $63,780 and $66,465 for the Max. The top line Platinum trim rings in at $73,905 for the standard, $76,595 for the Max. The price differences over the outgoing gen are staggering when you compare the trims. For instances, the Platinum trim, like I mentioned before starts at $73,905 for the standard wheelbase. That’s $8,505 bucks more than the outgoing Platinum trim. Could that be because of the new aluminium body? Could be. But that’s a hell of a change and starts to infringe on its brother, the Navigator at these prices.

The big news for this new one besides the aluminum body is the FX4 trim which Ford says will be the most capable Expedition ever. Starting at $63,155, it comes with specially tuned shocks, extensive underbody skid plates, a limited-slip rear differential, adjustable drive modes
and more.

New WRX and STi not due to come for another 3 years

Even though the Subaru Impreza is on a new platform, a new performance variant from them is going to be a long way off. Subaru seems to be fine with the WRX and STi the way it is. Subaru of Australia managing director Colin Christie said to expect nothing in the way of a new one until at least 2020, also citing a desire for more powerful engines. “We’d love to have more powerful cars,” he told Motoring . “But there’s nothing on the cards. The 1.6 turbocharged Levorg engine does not fit, so Impreza sports models are restricted to pack changes.”

As it stands the WRX has nothing from any other automaker in terms of a competitor. But the STi has both the FoRS and Golf R. Its also something of a middle ground between the Golf R’s grown up refinement and the FoRS brutal track ready attitude. Mitsubishi would be in on it too but a new Evo isn’t coming for another 6 years.

$53k for the Expedition?!

I guess the Suburban starts at $50k. Dang, cars have gotten expensive.

Its pretty impressive they offer something like that, since you cant get the Z71 package on the Suburban/Tahoe anymore (can you?).

I haven’t really looked at the expeditions lately, but are they worth it? Are they really that good at any of it? I see Tahoes and Suburbans routinely, but seldom see Expeditions. That is serious money.

Not so much cars, but trucks have gotten expensive. Unless it’s a Raptor, there’s generally $5-$10k or more in combined rebates and haggling room available on most domestic pickups and full-size SUVs. Just wait a few months after the new model launches to buy one.

Right? back in 2000 my parents got a EB in black fully loaded for $35K ish. Also, and F-250 crew cab diesel 4x4 for $31K

And yet Lincoln thinks they can add 30 grand worth of value on top of that platinum trim. Okkie Dokkey

That Fx4 sounds kinda weaksauce. Skidplates, a slightly better monotube damper and a rear LSD? I mean Skidplates should be expected, maybe even standard when you get the 4x4 low package. The lsd is nice but remembering the F150 gets a selectable rear locker takes some of the starch out of that shirt.

Yea same here. They used to be worth it. But Ford let it languish on the vine for too long, and the one on sale now is essentially the same one that’s been on sale since last decade, just with a minor refresh and a V6. Its been a meh to me. For the past few years the Tahoe/Suburban/Yukon have been the better buy. This new gen looks to reclaim some lost territory.

Damn. So the FX4 might be alone in the segment with having something this huge that can probably do some off roading. And I say probably because its length will affect approach angles.

True. But keep in mind, like I was saying to the other guy, this thing is going to be alone in the segment with having something this big having off road mechanical. you cant get a Z71 Suburban anymore.

The 1.6T engine doesn’t fit where a 2.5T goes? They can’t mean doesn’t fit, they must mean that it doesn’t line up properly or something. I mean the EJ25 has DOHC and a fairly long stroke...how could it be smaller than an engine nearly half its size?

Oh ok. Yea it makes no sense. Theres too much toe stepping in the upper trim levels. I would gladly take a Navigator though.

Yea I didn’t get that either, unless it really doesn’t fit and the reason is something that only Subaru knows.

I don’t see how Subaru didn’t bake the WRX/STI right into the Impreza. If that’s the case why are they waiting so long to bring it to market? I think honda did it right by having the Si and Type-R come out about a year after the standard model.

Plus the natively more capable Armada and even the natively more capable Sequoia (neither with lockers, but both with better angles and factory skids.)

I thought the same thing, but chalked it up to Subaru being a smaller company and not having the engineering resources to do so. Or they are purposely waiting to get the car how they want it.

The thing I can’t square is that we all know that 73 grand for a truck like this includes a lot of wiggle room for dealer incentives, which means markup...So the question that needs to be asked is - where does Lincoln put 30 grand of luxury on top? And what kind of markup is included in THAT number on top of the already high markup?

Well from what I know, Lincoln doesn’t really stock Black Label cars at dealers. Its a special personalization program so Im not sure how markups or incentives would work on them.

Make sense with the Navigator starting at 70, and the Expedition topping out at 75.

So you can have a loaded Ford for base model Lincoln price. Which is the game they’ve been playing since the 50s.

True. But the game makes less sense now, especially when the lesser model brings just as much to the table as its luxury brethren.

It might just come down to, “how do I want people to perceive me?” In some circles you’d opt for the Ford, when you don’t want to be too flashy. In other cases you’d opt for the Lincoln, because you want something to outshine the neighbors Escalade (that’s just in my opinion, but ya know).

Either way you are someone with quite the new vehicle budget. Knowing what we know about these SUV’s, we know that no matter which one someone is driving, they plunked down a ton of green, or more likely, took on a huge car loan. Anyone else though? They’ll just see an Expedition, vs oooh.wow.a luxirous Lincoln!

Kinja'd!!! "LJ909" (lj909)
06/23/2017 at 13:38, STARS: 0

This is true. But Ford seems to be getting there shit together in regards to having Ford and Lincoln models too close. Luxury wise the Platinum trim Expedition and Black Label Navigator seem to be on 2 totally different luxury levels. People should appreciate that and probably wont even realize how closely they are related.

It’s good that they were able to differentiate them substantially enough, because there was a time when the top-trim-Fords were just as good as Lincolns.
