Honestly, I wonder if it might have been a SABOT round. .50 cal tumbling usually starts around 1500 meters, low drag is really only viable as long as the round stays in a flat, untainted trajectory. I know you already know this

the ballistic coefficient of even Hornady’s A-Max is still 1.050, that is still poor enough to caused rapid deceleration at distance.
The last longest distance shot was also Canadian i think and I am pretty sure it was .338 lapua

Yeah, it was 338 lap.
I’ll say it here and not on the FP... a lot of long distance shots like this are chalked up to luck by the shooting team. It was an excellent shot and I’d have a 0.0 chance of doing it myself, but there’s luck involved.
