While I would love an original Mini they cost a fortune in the US. This design matches my 2004 Cooper.

Per se it is an excellent car, no doubt. I just don’t quite appreciate what BMW did/is doing to the brand.

Just a warning if you haven’t experienced this yet. When the head gasket goes, you can try and do it yourself but:
A) have no time to finish it (mines been sitting on jacks for three months now)
B) if your like me you’ll notice all the other things wrong with the car and try to fix those and lose a lot of money.

None taken. I would love to have one one day but not as my daily driver. The newer cars are much better at filling that role.
BMW missed the mark a bit with the 2nd generation cars but I really like what they are doing with the 3rd generation. The Cooper simply cant survive without the Countryman.

The N14 engine ruined the reputation of the entire brand. 95% of the time when you find someone who hated their Mini they owned a 2007-2010 Cooper S with the N14.

I tried to find an 01-06 s but I saw a r56 for a really good deal. I had no idea what I was getting into. I should have done a bit of research on the engine before I bought. But I’m gonna finish repairing the r56 and hopefully drive it until halfway through college without any issues

I have only had mine for 16 months but it has really become part of the family. I’m going to drive the wheels off it for the next 4-5 years until I am out of college and settled at which point I am going to get something more practical to become my family car (I really like the current Clubman...) and the Cooper will likely get built for stage rally or hardcore track use. It has become worth more to me personally than it is financially.
