I wish I took a picture of her looking so sorry for herself with bird bombs all over and dust/water spots.

But then it rained. Had a bit of a thunder storm to be honest, rained for an hour or so and 95% of the dirt and all of the bird bombs were washed off leaving me with again, two front wheels with brake dust.

I gave her a wash anyway

but then it started to rain for all of 20 minutes while I was wanting to dry her.

I’m sure the weather does it to piss me off.

I think 99.999% of people would be happy to have a self cleaning car, not me, I want to clean something.

Lordy, that’s a beautiful car. I don’t know much about Skoda. Does it have a VW platform mate?

Looks great, as always!

Do you have any tips for cleaning windows? I find in almost impossible to clean a window and have it come out streak free. I get so frustrated when I’m driving along thinking the window is perfectly clean then the sun hits it just right and all the streaks show up.

Thanks, she is quite a beauty.

Ye’, it shares the same MQB platform virtually all Skodas, SEATs, VWs, Audis, etc... share.

She shares the same platform and drive train as the Euro VW Passat (the North American Passat is a different car to what everyone else gets.

Ok, important question time. How the hell do you effectively vacuum the felt-like carpet in modern cars? It’s like velcro for dirt/sand/etc.

What are you using to clean windows?

I use an automotive glass cleaner that contains no colours to make it look pretty or scents to make it smell nice.

If you have any, dilute some isopropyl alcohol, dilute it 1:8, spray on a cloth, wipe over surface and then turn over the cloth and wipe again, then if you open out the cloth, fold it another way and then buff over the surface.

If you still get smears from using the window cleaner you use, take some newspaper, ball it up and then wipe the glass surface again.

Lightly moisten the surface and gently agitate with a nylon brush to lift the dirt up and then go in with a high power vacuum.

Sand is very light, the light moistening will give the sand a great mass and loosen it from the floor, aiding vacuuming it up.

But the best thing is a good set of mats, because there is almost always that bit that’s hard to get up without a good car shampoo and extractor machine.

No worries.

One thing I got for Piglet that is a godsend is the rear tunnel mat.

The carpet on the rear tunnel is a magnet for dirt and getting beaten up with feet.

Okay so I waxed my car with a carnuba wax (turtle wax), is anything I can do to prolong the shine?

Wax is great for a deep gloss but it’s durability is on average only three months.

If you wax and then seal with a sealant such as CarPro Reload, Gtechniq C2v3, Gyeon Cure, etc... the sealant lasts about three months plus but is easier to apply and top up. I use Gyeon Cure as a stand alone sealant, a top-up and a drying aid, meaning each wash each month or so it removing surface debris and then topping up the sealant extending the sealants life and so the wax’s life considerably.

I ’ve been using a product called Invisible Glass, which I’ve had the most luck with. No dye or scents in it. I’ll give isopropyl alcohol a try. Thank you.

Is there a particular type of cloth that works best on windows ? I have tried newspaper before, but it has been a long time since then. I should try that again.

Even after a complete wash of the car when I’m drying the windows I always leave behind streaks. The painted surfaces always come out perfect. I use a waffle microfiber for drying.

I use a medium (360gsm) microfibre cloth to clean but even a good microfibre will drop fine fibres, so I always wipe over with a suede cloth to buff any smears away and collect up any loose fibres.

That’s a good cleaner so it shouldn’t.

Try giving the glass cleaner a shake before use, spray two squirts onto a cloth and then wipe, keep turning the cloth over. Many people just keep wiping with the same side they used to apply the cleaner which just moves around the dirt, causing smears.

Cheers. Her licence plate (without saying exactly what it is) reads, ‘piglyy’.

So she’s called Piglet. :)

Gotcha. I used to own a Cavalier I called Woody for the same reason.

Thanks for sharing!

No worries.

Her predecessor didn’t have a name really. They came and went but we spend so much time with the, we talk to them we preen and pamper or even simply maintain them, so they should all have a name.

Looking great there mate, well done.

A clean car is a happy car and a happy owner.

Nice, Rupes Bigfoot LHR15. Nice DA, expensive, great quality, well balanced machine.

DAs are more forgiving than rotary polishers and great for getting over that nervousness.

I had a rotary, but gave it away. I like polishing by hand for that tactile feel but I’m considering buying another.

The DA is pretty nice. Unfortunately it’s not mine, borrowed from a good friend. I cant justify the cost for doing it evry 2 or 3 years.

Have you tried fusso Coat yet? Mine was still beading very nicely after 6 months and multiple wash cycles before I stripped it off for this polish

I’ve always been a sealer. I used a wax once. It was a pure carnauba liquid wax called C3 Smart Carnauba. It was amazing then Gtechniq steered towards coatings and sealants.

At present I’m using Gyeon’s range of Si02 based sealants, Wetcoat on wheels and Cure on the car body.

Great time saver and great product.

How are you doing fella?
