Kinja'd!!!

Honda has decided to copy Ferrari’s business model for the Type-R. The MSRP is $30k, but you can expect something closer to $50k if you want one now, and limited production numbers means that’s not going to change.

Kinja'd!!!

That means you’d have to pass on an AMG45 to get a Civic. So what say you, oppo? Is the Civic a Crack pipe now? Or does the legacy of the red R make it nice at any price, even over a benz?

How about $100 and I’ll take the best-looking part of the car?

Due to dealer(‘s parts department) markup, that is more like $700.

With the talk of the A class coming state side I was thinking yesterday. What would it take to make the A line of cars into a “Mercedes nice” level of car.

Harsh ride and cheap, noisy interior chief among the issues, im almost certain that 2 grand between suspension and upholstery could silence quite a bit of those complaints.

At their sticker prices I would take the CTR. At the same price I would take the A45. Car dealers are opportunistic fucks. People who pay 5-figure dealer markups are assholes for enabling and perpetuating bad dealership behavior.

It’s Honda’s fault too. If they weren’t acting like they were launching the LaFerrari 2, demand would go down and dealer markup would eventually normalize. But since they’re only making 6k of them, it never will now. Also the used ones will be super-inflated too. Great! THANKS HONDA WE REALLY APPRECIATE THAT!!

I don’t think the limited allocation to the US was done specifically to give dealers the opportunity for fat markups. Rather, I think it was Honda hedging their bet on whether or not the CTR would actually be popular.

Putting aside any pent-up demand for a car like the CTR, it’s a mid-$30k fwd hyper hatch that’s a couple grand less than its awd competition.

Even with “only” 6k of them being made, I don’t think the markups will last all that long. When the Focus RS came out, Ford dealers were trying to mark it up, not to the extent of the CTR, but they were trying to slap a $5k markup on it.

Last spring I called a Ford dealer in Madison, asked if they had any Focus RSes, and they said they had a loaded one with the RS2 package and Recaro seats on the way, which had not yet been claimed, and they would gladly sell to me for the sticker price, no markup.

A couple weeks ago I test drove an Edge Sport at a different Ford dealer and they had a similar Focus RS sitting on the showroom floor. Their website has it priced at $43,675 even though the sticker price is $40,675 . But it’s sitting there in the showroom, hanging out waiting.

What’s the TCO for both cars over 100,000 miles?

The Civic was already crack pipe at MSRP.

And so is the CLA/GLA45 in my opinion (For $50k+ I want my cars to have more than four cylinders), but at the same price there is no question I’d take the CLA/GLA/A45.

...but I’d take the RS3 over either of those two in a heartbeat.

Unbelievable crack pipe. I think I’d go for a WRX STI

Its definitely not worth 50k, especially when so many better cars can be had at sticker (mustang gt/Camaro SS 1le, focus rs, golf r, STI, ect.) And I wouldn’t spend 33k for a car with huge slabs of plastic that act as fake grills along ever corner. I mean SERIOUSLY why does the car need four 1ft by 1ft slabs of plastic that barley look like grilles on each corner?
