Kinja'd!!!

Hi Guys!

Small update:
I am nearing completion on the restauration of the Pontiac Lemans.
The brakes were replaced, the rear suspension and coil spring, we handled the rust and are now busy doing the steering and front suspension and coil spring.

After removing the upper and lower control arms we discovered that it would be quicker and easier to just buy new ones in stead of saving the old ones.

The pontiac is a LeMans from 1974 with a firebird engine in it.
Does anybody have any ideas which control arms I need at an affordable price?
I’ve looked on eBay but the best ones are all for 1972. Will this fit?

Help me automotive geniuses! You’re my only hope!

Barnfind Pontiac goodness for your time!

Kinja'd!!!

Jaime

The colonnade coupes debuted in 73, so the 72 body style is theoretically different. That said, there’s a lot of parts interchangeability from GM in the 70s. I just checked my shop manuals from 1975, but they only cover B body for part numbers. Sorry, I provided almost zero help, but maybe give a call to Ames Performance today. Even if they don’t have the part, they have all the old part numbers and cross references and can point you in the right direction. They helped out a bit on my 75 Grandville in the past.

Sorry, replying to my own reply. I just checked the Ames website and they have a 64-77 GTO/lemans catalog. Happy hunting!

Thanks for the reply FLmanisback!
I went hunting on the site but my knowledge of American Muscle is abismal (due to living in Belgium ;) ).

I order all my parts through rockauto.com because they deliver in Europe and are quite cheap but I have no clue where to order this control arm.

Can you help me out?

Thanks!

Jaime

So, if you go to amesperf.com they will let you download a off of the GTO catalog. On page 297 is the control arm components. They do not have replacement arms for your 74, but you can buy shaft and bushing kits for 1973-1977 a bodies and rebuild it yourself. I gave them a call from my desk just now, and they will ship to Belgium, it just will be a higher shipping cost than the website shows.

First off thanks for all the hard work and information.
Didn’t realise I was going to get so many quick helpful responses :)
I bought the shaft- and bushing kits from rockauto but the arms themselves look pretty rusted now that I have them out.
I guess I’ll just sand them and see what remains once the rust is gone.

Thanks once again and will post before and after pics of entire restoration once it is done.

Have a good one!

Jaime
