Kinja'd!!!

You may recall that one dealership ordered nearly 140 Vipers when news broke Chrysler would be discontinuing them back around October. Then in January, I asked you all to pick your favorite Viper out of the 120 available. Well it looks as if there are only 15 Vipers left  at Gerry Wood Dodge. I mean if you missed out on a Ford GT and can’t wait for the ZR1 to be marked up above a brand new NSX then why not grab a Dodge-SRT Viper?

Wait, did they actually get an allocation of 140 Vipers? Or did they get denied by Dodge?

Looks that way. I never saw anything strange over the last six months.

This is another case of not enough enthusiasts stepping up to buy something they claim to want. I recall a couple years ago that they had to idle the factory for a while because of poor sales. And if you want to help, go buy an SS before they go away as well.

Or it’s a case of new federal airbag regulations being to expensive to implement on a low-volume, comparatively low-cost, hand-built supercar.

If that’s the case, then shame on FCA - they have plenty of money, designers, and engineers to throw at the problem.

That might be the most gorgeous purple I’ve ever seen on a car.

It really is stunning...

But then they’d have to sell the Viper at normal supercar prices, which you hear enough complaints about a $100k dodge, how many would you hear about a $300k Dodge, and how many would they sell?

If it added 10K to the price I’d be surprised. Besides, innovation like that pays off when designing other models.

They sell like 300 a year, that’s only $300k to design, build, and crash test. They’ll probably do a bit more testing than that. Also, what sort of development could they get from implementing overhead airbags on a 300 unit hand-built car that they didn’t already get from the rest of their lineup?
