Vipers are undervalued

Kinja'd!!!

They hardly cost anything more than a C4 Zr1 (which itself is undervalued). People are paying an arm and a leg for the “analog” Ferraris and Lamborghinis (as if a Ferrari or Lamborghini isn’t already analog even with paddles) but the America’s from the same decade are just sitting in purgatory waiting for their moments to shine.

Lighter than metal and faster than a Ferrari 355. I would argue the Viper is even a supercar.

A current GTI is just as fast, same price, and doesn’t have the same interior as a mid-90s intrepid. So..........

A current GTI also has 1/4 the displacement, none of the looks and won’t threaten your life if you look at the go pedal wrong.

A current GTI has 20+ years of development time on the Viper. A current GTI is an appliance.

And the GTI just lacks presence, no one is oogling the GTI but a Viper is going to cause a scene anywhere it goes.

That’s overvalued in my opinion.

Sure, it’s got some things going for it, like the name, you can say you have a V10, and the T56 is built up from the factory.

But $30,000 for a thirsty V10 that only makes 450 hp wrapped in cheap 90's Dodge finishwork is not a good deal. Not now, when there are so many other options out there.

Totally agree - especially the first gen and 2nd gen GTS. It is THE American exotic. It’s why the Vette is as good as it is now. Yes it’s 90's plastic but that is part of the package. Don’t melt your pants on the side pipes.

I’m sorry, but your title kind of triggered me. “Viper’s” would be something belonging to a viper. “Vipers” is the plural.

Counterpoint: That 488 cubic inch mill will decimate all after you put about 10, 20 grand into it, if you have to overnight parts from Japan Garrett

Sure it’s a lot of plastic but a 95 911 wasn’t exactly a looker on the inside:

I’d love to see a GTI out drag this car down a quarter mile. Maybe it is as fast on a track thanks to a DSG but this car has passion a GTI lacks

I agree but few 30k cars today will demand the same respect or be worth the same amount as the Viper in a decade

C4s and Vipers are inexpensive because they suck. C4s have no room for your feet and Vipers are claustrophobic in general. There’s less room inside than a Miata.

I’d argue that the development time of the Viper started back in the 60's when someone said “huge American engine, small car!”

The problem here, for me, is that the first gen Viper was not good looking, and the 400hp V10 had to lug around ~3300 pounds.

The SRII was where the story got good (and good looking), but even the GTS only managed an 8:10 around the ring, which is 20 seconds slower than the new GTI Clubsport.

I don’t feel that the early models are undervalued, but I wouldn’t kick this out of my garage.

Doge DeMuro’s sold on BaT for, what I think is a fantastically good deal. Around $33K. Of course there’s more cost to it than just the purchase price but still, $35K for 10-year-old-me’s dream car: deal.

You could make the same argument about any classic sports car. We’ve been spoiled due to the ongoing HP wars. Sure you can buy something newer that’s faster, but it won’t have nearly the desirability that this, or any other classic sports car has.
