Kinja'd!!!

At least according to Cargurus, which for some reason is way better than Autotrader and Cars.com at finding rare or hard to find models for sale. Theres only one in my state, a private owner is asking just over 26 grand. The highest priced one? A dealer in Chicago called Chicago Motor Cars is asking $39,800 for an 09 with just over 14 thousand miles. The cheapeast? This one :

Kinja'd!!!

Its at Covert Buick GMC in Austin. They want $20,555 for this 09. But the damn thing has over 140 thousand miles on it. CP.

It gets even crazier with the Solstice coupe/targa probably one of the rarest cars GM has ever made. Only 1,266 09's were ever made before the lines shut down at the plant. In 2010, only 12 Solstice coupes were made. Who ever has them is holding on to them. The cheapest is this one:

Kinja'd!!!

This georgous 09 at a private dealer in Ohio has only 4,899 miles on it, and no its not a GXP sadly. The most expensive one:

Kinja'd!!!

this 09 red targa for 39 grand. Its a lot considering its not a GXP model either. As much as I love the Solstice I dont know how I could justify spending this much to have a fixed roof when there are thousands of just as good roadsters for under 15 grand on the used market. I also couldn’t bring myself to spend that much on a G8 GXP when the newer models of the Charger SRT-8 and Chevy SS exist. But if you guys want these you better act now. Or would you even pull the trigger?

I think the Solstice coupe looks nice, but the convertible looks better.

You’re going to drop like over 60 grand.

The Solstice has been a dream car of mine since I was a teen. When I was 18 my mom rented me one for the weekend to take down to San Diego and its been love ever since.

True. Good luck finding a Sky Redline though. I dont even see those for sale. Could just be my area.

I don’t blame you. It’s got a special kind of panache. The quintessential roadster.

Probably your area. When my mom was looking to buy one I test drove like 3 for her before she found a SLK she liked more

Thats what I would do. Most GXP’s used are going for SS money. Its crazy.

Wow thats surprising. But not really. The SLK is more comfortable than the Kappa twins.

The power difference isn’t worth the price gulf

I prefered the Kappa over all. The trunk though was its downfall.

The trunk was a joke and whats kept me from buying one as a main vehicle. 95% of everything you couldn’t fit in there. Its like GM focused on building a roadster first and everything second and like when they got to the storage and ergonomics, it was an “Oh shit” moment. Even the Miata has a trunk. I dont understand how GM messed that part up.

Me either, but on that same topic the Coupe has that issue too. Thar hard targa top has no storage inside the vehicle. It just plain doesn’t fit. So you either take it or leave it. If memory serves someone made a soft targa top that was foldable to fit into the trunk when you wanted to be able to have both. But yeah I am not sure how GM did that

I wasnt aware of that. That baffles me considering that even the Cadillac Allante in the late 80's was engineered with 2 tops: the removable hardtop and the convertible. The Solstice should have came like this. But if prices for them stay the way they are because of their rarity, I’ll stick with a $9,995 good ol fashioned manual convertible GXP and still be happy.

The problem is the Solstice looks really really good as a coupe but personally fails as a very. The Sky looks amazing though as a very. Hence that is why the way I picked them.

Chicago motor cars routinely overprices their cars

I figured as much just by browsing their site. Seems to be one of those typical private owned dealers that specialize in luxury and super cars, but prices them comparable to the new versions of those cars that are for sale even though they are older with more miles. I hate those. We have a bunch of them here in Southern California. One for instance has a 16 FoRS for 38 grand with 4 thousand miles with gold wheels and black stripes no one asked for. Why would I do that when I can get a new one for probably less?

I’ve been seriously considering a Caprice as my next car. A nice low mile detective unit. Essentially the same thing as as a G8, less shouty, less $ and fewer suitors to drive prices. If Pontiac never folded, G8's would be less money now and a significant part of the Miata type car guy recommendations for fun cars on the cheap.

I’ve looked into Caprice’s at some poliece auctions and they get bids of upwards of 10 grand in some places because its V8 power on the cheap.

You can find cheap G8's but its the basic V6 versions, which were ok, but mostly forgettable. I routinely suggest the Solstice/Sky to people that want a roadster on the cheap. Its good for what it is. Almost an American Miata. Almost. It shows the answer isnt always Miata.

Chicago Motor Cars, which isn’t even in the same county as Chicago, always has amazing inventory. They’re prices are sky high though.

As much as I love the G8, they’re prices are stupid high. For everyone who thinks that Chevy SS’s are going to get stupid cheap real soon, I direct your attention to G8 prices.

Yea I was looking through their inventory and saw that a lot of their cars prices are equlivent to those same models prices new.

Everyone best bet if they are in the market for a G8 GXP or even a GT is to look at something else. GXP prices are equivalent to 2-3 year old SS’. Or it might just be best to try to find a Caprice at a police auction, or go Charger/300 SRT if you dont have to have a car that handles.

Just 29 Subaru Outback XT’s, only 12 with the manual. Zero with the 08/09 facelift.

Edit: check that. The site has four different versions of the XT trim for some reason. There’s 50 for sale, 16 in manual. 10 with the facelift, just one manual with the facelift.

those 2010 Pontiac will be collector cars on years to come, assuming they were sold and not scrapped by GM
