Genesis G80 Sport or Kia Stinger (or something else entirely)?

They are pretty much the same car, just wrapped in different bodies. The G80 Sport is a looker, especially with its use of Copper trim. The Stinger is something else entirely. I think its wonderful. A poor mans A7 in the rear, while being just as aggressive in the front.

Its surprising that Hyundai/Kia is going to have two performance vehicles under its belt. Both share their corporate 3.3 twin turbo V6 putting out 365 horses to the rear wheels. The Kia also gets a base 2.0 turbo 4 putting out a not too bad 255 horses.

Kinja'd!!!

Interior wise they both dont disappoint from what I can see, with the Kia being more sporty than the G80.

Hyundai/Kia does a good job of giving you a lot for your money. The Genesis G80 Sport really has no options, and rings in at an MSRP of $56,225 ($57,750 with awd). I do wish you could get the 5.0 V8 in the Sport trim. The Stinger is expected to start in the 40's for the base turbo 4, and top out over $50 grand for the twin turbo V6. Both of these vehicles, no matter how good, have the sad stigma of their respective brands, which has caused other cars they make, namely the G90/Equus,and the K900 to not really sell.

So which would you guys choose, the Stinger, G80 Sport, or something else because of the lack of brand prestige and respect?

g80 sport purely based off of looks. Also its nice that its a “genesis” now and not a hyundai or kia

I like them both, maybe the Hyundai’s grille better. It would be a tough choice. I’d probably have to get two, one for either mood.

Yea I like that it has the Genesis badge as well. It’ll have more people asking what it is, than you having to explain why you dropped nearly 60 large on a Hyundai.

Yea its a tough sell. They offer a lot of bang for your buck. It would be a dead loss for the Stinger though if the G80 Sport offered the 5.0 Tau V8.

No argument there. Although, it would change the character of the car entirely, at least in its current form, don’t you think?

Of those two, I’ll take the Hyundai, even though I’ve historically preferred Kia. But if I didn’t have any pre existing affiliation or bias, I would get a Giulia.

Yea for the better. I found it weird though that they didn’t offer the V8 in the Sport considering that the last gen Hyundai Genesis came in an R-Spec trim that you could get with the V8 pushing 429 horses. The weird thing though is that for what it was, its was as quick as a standard Chrysler 300C. I think it was just heavy.

It’s the heavy part I worry about. But in my K900, it seems to do quite well.

I love the K900/Equus. Im looking to get one to replace my Sonic since I have the Mustang. The K900 is hard to find kind of and for some weird reason seems to be holding its value way better than the Equus.

How about a Chevy SS? It’s a bit anonymous on the styling, but it’s very well equipped. You can find new ones between $45-50k (depending on color/location), and lightly used ones are in the 35-42k range.

It would be a very tough ask between the two, I’d probably go G80 though because I like the interior better. I don’t like the whole “stick a tablet on the dash and call it an infotainment system” trend that’s been happening. I blame Mazda.

Yup. Great deals right now. And it’s a great car. Better than the 4-banger stinger I bet. With the options I’d want, awd and a couple extras, it would be $45k before incentives and negotiating.

Between the two, I’d take the Stinger 10/10 times. It isn’t that the G80 looks bad , the Stinger just looks the business, both inside and out.

That said, the only Stinger I’d want would be the GT with the TTV6, and paying $50k for a Kia would be a big matzo ball, at least to me.

I think the SS is on another spectrum performance wise though. It outguns both the Genesis and Kia but is surprisingly cheaper than both.

Because repair costs. And if I’m going to get a performance wagon thats attainable and wont break the bank, the answer will always for me be Magnum SRT8, as long as I can find one.

It would be a unique, but iffy buy. I would wait a few years before I bought a Giulia to see the reliability prove itself, along with the sparse dealer network.

For some reason here in SoCal, K900's and Equus (Equui,Equus’?) are few and far in between used. With in 75 miles of me, according to Cargurus, there are 14 K900's ranging from $27,160 to just under $58 grand. It gets a little better with the Equus. There at 34 ranging from just over 17 grand to $55 thousand. I would love one its just finding a good deal

A few months back before I got my Mustang, I almost pulled the trigger on a Equus a local Mercedes dealer had that they had gotten in on trade. It had 114 thousand miles on it and they wanted just over 14 grand. It was a good deal but we couldn’t agree on anything.

Yea the Stinger looks the sporty performance part. The G80, while nice, still looks upper management psotion luxury that just happens to be sporty.

Thats the thing about the Stinger. A lot of people would bite, and we all want that Twin Turbo GT V6 model. Its just trying to justify paying over 50 large for a Kia and then having to explain that to people. I see this being one of those cars that are a better value used than new.

the center vents on the Stinger scream 90's design...like a Grand Am. Vents should not be the centerpiece of the dash. The interior of the Genesis looks like a much nicer place to be.

If you find one in another market at a Carmax, you could get it transferred. Even the Carmax prices are good deals. But then you have a Mustang now, so I’m sure you’re happy.

Yea but Carmax overcharges. but you cant beat their warranty. Im happy with the Mustang because we had been wanting a convertible, but my girl fell in literal love with the Equus, especially when she saw our 6 year old sitting in the huge throne rear seat. She said she wont stop until we get one, so its something I have to get pretty much at this point.

A nicely kept unmolested SRT8 Magnum is holding some value, putting them in a more premium price bracket than deserved. And that gen Magnum/Charger is just not a nice place to be inside with a generous amount of the same cheap plastic found in a Caliber on just about every surface. As cool as they are, they just feel cheap and antiquated inside.

Totally agree with you. Its pre bankruptcy Chrysler at its worse. Plastic interior is a horrible place to be with ill fitting and loose everything. Its the downside. You get can get some good deals with first gen SRT’s its just putting up with the quality.

You’re really right on their value. From what I’ve seen, they are typically in between 16-23 grand, with anything more than 23 being the extreme end. And they are getting harder to find without shitty mods like Autozone fake vents and aftermarket lights, racing strips that dont belong and horrible rims. And even then they are still in the high teens.

The G80 Sport is 6.5” longer than the Stinger GT. It weighs 4519 lbs in rwd form. Official weight for the Stinger GT hasn’t been published yet but reviews have started being posted in the past few days and pegging it at ~3900 lbs. The rwd Stinger GT has a limited slip differential and there’s no mention of that on the G80 Sport. The Stinger GT is a hatchback, the G80 Sport is a sedan. So yeah, those are some pretty big differences.

(For the record, I’d take the Stinger.)

Magnum. And while I may pull your leg a little as I just had that picture saved to respond in another thread, I still believe that the Mercedes might be a tad better. The Magnum sits on an older platform and the interiour just doesn’t match.

06/20/2017 at 17:57, STARS: 0

Yea like I was saying to the other guy, the downside of the Magnum is its pre bankruptcy Chrysler interior. That means acres of hard black plastic and cheapness. It is older but you cant beat that 6.1 Hemi, and the amount of usable space it is. If Chrysler had kept it on, it would be a hell of a buy today, but the Durango seems to have filled that role.

Don’t want to drive a Durango in the twisties though. High center of gravity and all...

which puts them in the “I must have this car and won’t have anything else” market. Because otherwise there are better options for the $. I wish they kept making the Magnum though...even though I still find them a little antiquated inside (still clinging to that W210 layout) the material choices and hardware, like buttons and switches, are vastly improved in the newer Chargers. They also don’t feel so clunky to drive around...the first gens didn’t take long to feel worn out.

Its one of the reasons I dont care for performance SUV’s. The whole term is a contradiction in itself. Nothing with a high center of gravity should be able to go fast or drift. I appreciate them, but SRT Durango,Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, BMW X5M,Range Rover SVR etc are insane and not in a good way.

Yea like I said to the other guy, if they had kept at it, a second gen Magnum would be probably one of the best buys on the market now. Anyway you put it, from a lowly SXT with the 3.6 to maybe a Hellcat Magnum would be great, especially with the improved quality that they have like you mentioned. Sadly, the Durango seems to have taken the dad wagon role

There’s a dealer a few miles from my house. Not a big deal. Plus I have other modes of transportation if something breaks. If I were in the market for a new car, the Giulia would be at the top of the list. But it’s still hypothetical since even if I were in the market, I get awesome lease deals on Benz.

Id take the G80.

I drove a 5L Equus while, it can outrun an older GT Mustang, most of the time its just humming along. Sure a v8 is nice every now and then but itll get old.

The stinger is ugly. Bleh. The G80 looks nice. Hyundai really changed its image. Its alot better company that it used to be.

The G80 is what Id buy. Plus it lets you experience a luxury car without getting dry raped by German repair prices.

Go drive the G80.
