Kinja'd!!!

So.. word is Ducati is about to anger the purists of the brand.

Much like Porsche *was* known for its air-cooled 911's; Ducati is known for their 2-cylinder L-twin motors..... But they’re about to change it up and go to a V4 derived from their MotoGP bikes.....

So yeah.. expect next year’s Panigale R to be sporting, rather than a 1200 cc L-twin, a 1000 cc V4. And considering the ‘older’ 1200 cc motor is rated at over 200 HP, god knows what the V4 will be capable of................

Also! Look at this Superleggera I was checking out the other day!! One of only 500 made. And one of only a handful that will make it to North America.

Kinja'd!!!

Dry weight of 340 Lbs, 215 horsepower (225 with the “track kit”) and a cool, cool price tag of $75,000.... Cuz carbon fiber and titanium coming from Italy aren’t cheap!

Neat Ducati fact- if you look at my pic of it, the “red” is closer to a weird orange. (you can see the difference in the colors vis a vis the Panigale R, painted in traditional Duc red, behind the Superleggera).

Apparently Ducati paints all their race bikes this orange color, because once it’s broadcast on TV screens, this orange shows up as the traditional Ducati red..... Whereas a bike in the tradtional Duc red will appear as a too dark maroon.......

Ducati has been running V4s in their top spec stuff for a while at the same time their normal stuff has been L2s. If anything the purists should be excited they get the unobtainium so to speak. Either way sexy bike is slightly orange I guess lol

I wonder if the production V4 will keep the big bang firing order of the GP V4. Ducati quotes the gp17 as over 250hp, wonder how much emissions will rob from it.

Apparently the reason they’re moving to a V4 on the production bikes is for Euro 4 compliance... So seems like the V4 will be more friendly emissions-wise than the L2.... But still, you gotta figure it’ll have more power than the 1200 L2... which is still A LOT.....

Oh ya for sure, the Ducati GP bikes have been more powerful than the competition for years now. Just watch this years Mugello race, they haul ass down that straight, Dovi had some serious moments going over the little crest at the end because he had so much speed.

I wonder if the V4 will preserve the firing order of the twin.

If so, the sound won’t be that far off.

I hear you on both......... But it sounds like the V4 will only be going into the top-tier sport bikes for the time being.... So Ducati will still be making twins for the foreseeable future...

Makes sense, then it would allow them to run a gp derived engine in wsbk. Look out kawasaki! I wonder if the new baby panigale will also go v4 or stick to v twin

Not the first time they’ve sold a bike for that price with a V4.

Kinja'd!!!

I seriously considered a 1299 before buying my RSV4, but couldn’t get over the Ducati-ness of it. Needlessly expensive parts just for the sake of being needlessly expensive.

Yeah, that engine pic up top is from from the Desmocedici.... And I didn’t realize aprilia’s were cheap....

An RSV4 is less expensive than a 1299, on the purchasing, modifying, and operating sides. A simple exhaust and ECU upgrade will cost at least double on the 1299 for comparable brands, for example.
