Car and Driver has a pretty solid generation by generation overview of the 911 generations. I particularly like that you can see the lengths of each car compared.

Pretty good illustration. I don’t think I would have grouped all the cars from 65-89 together though. At least split them between the 911 classic and 911sc/Carrera. Make the introduction of the Turbo the dividing line.

Yeah definitely more focused on newer models. I learned a lot though. Didnt realize that theyve been so similar speed wise since the 962

I presume you’re talking 0-60? The base models have dropped the time by about 1.5 seconds since the 964, but the higher models are much quicker now. Also the transmission really matters. The tiptronics were slow, but now the PDK is fastest.

Oh yeah for sure, i quickly realized that it was just the base cars that were not improving drastically. But while high 4 seconds is quick in a 996 in 1999, it was probably veeery impressive in 1990 in the 964

From 2011 - ha! The new 991s with turbos across the line is the only big change since then, I guess (and the EPS getting a lot better).

Yeah its old as hell but I wanted a quick run down on the generations and half of the lists on the internet are slideshow style which absolutely INFURIATE ME especially on annoying ad and picture heavy sites that take 10 seconds to load each slide.

Lets not kid ourselves, that’s still damn quick today. It was lightning fast back in the day. We’re spoiled because there are so many fast cars for sale now. The fact I can buy a Mustang GT in the low $30s with over 400 hp is amazing.

Yeah, those slideshows pretty much signify the end of western civilization.

Yeah I was very young for the launches of the 964 and 993 but they must have been incredible at the time with how little competition there was that was at that level of engineering.

It does show how good these cars are though that an old 993 that is now outperformed by a lot of cheaper cars is still commanding prices higher than it did when it was new.
