I know if I were in a humble contest I would take second place because I could never accept first place. I just dont think Id deserve it! There are so many people far more humble than me. In fact, winning would be humiliating! Earning second would be a truly humbling experience. This has been a random thought from your Nearly-Most Humble Wobbles. Tip your server, but it won’t help the connection.

Another thing...Boaterbike. Don’t ask what it is, just say it once. “Boaterbike.”

Boat -

Er -

Bike.

Boaterbike.

You only needed to say it once! But since you are so interested, how many would you like? Don’t answer that! You can have mine.

I should have been a salesman back in the 80s when people actually used that “wtf is going on?” style of salesmanship.

Well, sometimes these set phrases are a codeword for something else. “Let me be honest with you” means “I’ll be blunt”.

Similarly, when a Frenchman says “je vais être clair” [“I am going to be clear on this”] means “I am going to be rude”, as mentioned in this glorious article by The Economist on the perils of translation...
