Kinja'd!!!

After sleeping on the last two days of diagnosis, I’m gonna check for blown fuses on the 931 and replace the battery. I don’t want to believe there’s a “Damien” electrical baby devil. And I’ll remember to keep the battery on tender/trickle charge or disconnected at all times when the car isn’t in use.

How’s everyone else doing?

Good luck!

Drove my 40 mins to work this morning...not terribly hot, but very muggy and unpleasant. On the plus side, the lower half of the school grades are gone on a class trip today, so have no classes all morning to get my marking and most of my report cards done!

May not be the primary cause of your problems (voltage drop) but have you checked the ground connections (starting by the one nearest the battery)? It won’t take long to clean them up a bit, and they will certainly help to get all the juice where it should.

I’ve cleaned up quite a few of them in the past.

On this diagram I’ve cleaned up 4, 5, 3(as best as I could and it’s the engine ground strap, I should replace it honestly but can’t find a suitable replacement in stores), and 6. I replaced 1 entirely.

Oh, good.

However, regarding number 3... have you considered fitting a new, good cable of the right gauge (even if it is not an OEM strap or whatever), at least until you get the appropriate part? Because it is not quite OK it could also be hindering your efforts.

I just found #2 online finally. I wonder how bad it is since I’ve not look at it yet. I’ll see if I can find a decent replacement. I wasn’t even going for an OEM strap last time. I just know that it looks really dirty and gray.

Hopefully that takes care of it, but if not, I’ve got some free time this weekend if you’d like a hand tracing things down.

Absolutely. I’d very much appreciate any extra hands and assistance. When are you free this weekend?

All day Saturday, and a few hours on Sunday afternoon.

if its really dirty and grey i would guess it also has a fair amount of corrosion that will reduce conductivity.

I was able to replace it with a new cable and washers and the battery is still good, but no start yet. I found the last fuel leak and have to order another part for it. I will also order a new starter motor because the old one just has to go and I don’t think it’s strong enough to start the car, if that’s possible.

After these plans fail, I’ll work on the surface rust, and clean/repair the last few grounds until I can schedule time at a shop and they’ll have to finish what I’ve continued.

To add one more thing. Like Zoidberg a few weeks ago, check any old relays. check the contacts for any discoloration.

Kinja'd!!!

I once had a good relay (tested with a multimeter), but it had a little corrosion on the tip was screwing up the fuel injection preventing it from starting . little emory cloth and some contact cleaner and I was then good to go.

I’ll pull out all the relays and check and clean them as necessary.I didn’t think it possible that a relay not related to engine functions could cause problems.

I’m not familiar with 944, but on a914 one relay controls the FI and another the starter.

Oh! I should’ve mentioned that the (one) is actually the number and not the word!

It should be:

(k)(tiger’s last name)(1)@ltu.edu

no parentheses and it’s not case-sensitive.
