Is it wrong that I kind of want a '74 Oleg Cassini Matador?

I like the style of these. Only problem is the stock-oem levels of performance suck.

You couldn’t even get this with 4-on-the-floor.

Yes, but 727 torqueflite. I say build with custom valve body and drag friction surfaces, drop in *Chrysler* engine of some kind with cheap go-faster parts, hoon.

Do you also want a golden gun and a third nipple?

big lazy engines are fun. something like say a 440. those came in a bunch of different motor homes. and you can get those pretty near GIVE to you. and there are a ton of options to help give them some run.

That’s kind of my thought. Second gen 390 or third gen 401 AMC V8s are good choices, but they aren’t available and cheap like a 440. 440 power in a Matador coupe would be a great thing.

Most definitely not. They’re so cool. I had a Barcelona Matador Coupe once upon a time and it was awesome. They’re definitely not a fast car, but it’s a car you really don’t feel like driving fast. It’s meant for leisurely drives where you can enjoy that lush, bed-like interior.

Have been enjoying lush, bed-like interior of Galaxie, can confirm.

that 440 and some deep gears and some kind of spool. some very wide tires to fill up the rear wheel wells. it would be low speed entertainment for WEEKS on end.........

I was thinking a quick-change - make it so you could RUMBLE RUMBLE RUMBLE around town at low idle all day with tall ratio, and then convert tires to rubber smoke on the weekend. Very expensive, but there’s enough money saved in the engine to do that, right?

could always build the 440 for low end, grunt torque, the 727 has a nice 2.45 first gear..... so even something in the low 3's would lug the car around great for economy. and the grunt of the 440 would still crutch the size of the gears. might have to upgrade whatever rear end is under it to either a ford 9, or a chrysler 8 3/4........

Apparently it’s an AMC model 20, but a bunch of Ford 9" (close match) from the late ‘60s/early ‘70s will bolt up and/or a late ‘60s Mopar fullsize (exact match).

i would like the 9 inch, because they were in just about everything, and it wouldnt be hard to get a nice deep collection of ratios(in carriers) to drop into it, AND tough as a boot. the chrysler is a bit more work to swap out ratios. (if a guy had a pallet jack, and a rear end already on springs, it could be a fairly quick job(bolts on the springs and shocks)). and those mopar rear ends are not just falling out of trees anymore......

edit...... had 8 1/4 rear on the brain. not any more work to swap a 8 3/4 gearset, but availability is a bit sketchy to find another good carrier section. i mean, when was the last time you seen one laying around?......
