Nah - Integra would be the Cavalier Z24 right? The Lumina was Accord size or larger.

The engine in these were a difficult-to-maintain mongrel of a design.

I’m not sure how a sportified coupe version of a V6 family sedan is a competitor for the Integra, a vaguely premium 4-cylinder 3-door hatch or small 4-door sedan.

If we’re talking Hondas from the same time period...

But, oh man- that 5 minutes when it did run right... These were damn quick for their time.

GM also sold a turbo 3.1 version of the Grand Prix:

Wasn’t that the McLaren one?

Probably a hell of a lot easier to work on than the 3.4...

This is true. I’m pretty sure it takes a drum of vaseline to successfully install one of those engines.

I don’t think it was underrated. It was rated exactly how it was.

McLaren ASC, yes. And having had a non-turbo 3.1, there are a few tricks to make things much easier. Note the passenger side dog bone engine mount has an extra hole. That hole should be down and to the engine. You can unbolt the engine from the mount, pull it forward, slide the bolt through that hole instead, and you have much easier access to the back plugs.

Taurus SHO was faster. And the Chrysler LH cars with the 3.5L V6 had almost the same performance for a lower cost. Just stay on top of the transmission fluid changes along with all the other usual stuff and they can be quite long-lived.

I’ve always thought it would be fun to have Icon or someone do a restomod on my GP. Keep the look stock, then go insane with the engine and do stuff like remachine all the interior buttons in aluminum or replace the GM cloth with chenille.
