In preparation for their demonstration at this year’s Paris Air Show, Boeing’s most advanced airliners took to the skies over Washington. Come for the dynamic takeoff and beautiful cinematography, stay for the disclaimer at the end.

they should put the engines from the 787 onto the 737. the diameter of the engines look like they would be about the same as the body..

I love the nose of the 787 over the duck beak looking 737. It reminds me of the old Comets

Unless I’m missing something, Wiki reports the diameter of the GEnx engines as 11.5 ft, and the fuselage diameter of the 737 as 12.3 ft, so yeah, pretty close. I think the 787 is a deceptively large aircraft. When you see the two on the runway early in the video, you get a sense for just how big the Dreamliner is.

I saw a Dreamliner for the first time in Cancun. I thought from a far maybe 757/767 and then we taxied next to it and saw it was huge and saw Dreamliner and was shocked. I think it was shocking too because it was a part of a Airline Tour company called ThomasCook.com and I had never heard of them

Edit. It was Thomson not ThomasCook.com. One of my buddies I texted had it from memory that Thomas Cook only has A320 and that it would have been TUI. Haha. Also if that’s hard to read waking up and Oppoing immediately is dangerous.

There is a 787 that has daily service from Austin to London-Heathrow. I see if fly over my house regularly. I finally got a chance to see it from inside the terminal, and was blown away by its size, particularly the engines. It’s a beast. But a beautiful beast.

767 is pretty close the 787 in size, except for the wingspan, which is way larger on the 787. Length/Width/Seating Capacity is all pretty similar (aside from normal differences between the variants). The 787 has the wingspan of an early 747 though.

I think the one in Cancun was the first I’ve seen but I normally fly Southwest out of Nashville and then into Southwest Huns so I can get to smaller airports that also don’t have bigger planes like Nashville. The biggest thing I’ve seen is a Antanov 124 there. Seeing the 747s the time or two I flew into LA was great though.

Dammit, I was going to take out my 787 and do some fancy formation flying tonight after work too.

It always blows my mind to see how big the 787 is. I think because the shape and proportions are so similar to the 737 that your mind thinks it is about the same size. It’s only when you’re right next to it or see them next to each other that you can pick up the size difference.

Just like all the car adverts that show the car doing all these cool things and then they tell you not to do them. Yes, the 787 is deceptively big. That overhead screenshot I posted in this thread really does a good job of illustrating that. In fact, the engines on the 787 are only 1 ft narrower in diameter than the fuselage of the 737.
