*Gets a cpu related bsod after 12 hours of up time* Ah the joys of overclocking. If I had enough spare money to not worry about blowing the thing up, I’d crank the voltage way up. Oh well.

I managed to crank a Skylake i5 up to 4.51 GHz, but the poor bastard shuddered on 4.6.

Overclocking, while I love it, is a major time sink. Running stability tests takes ages of you need 100% stability.

On a side note, I just picked up a used 2600k and plan to get that thing as close to 5ghz as possible!

I have my I7 6700K running at a steady 4.6. I could go higher, but then noise starts to become an issue, even though it’s liquid cooled.

I never really got the hang of overclocking. I could certainly use it on my WC 4770k, I’m just not sure quite...how. I get the idea behind it, but not the dark magic...

Reliability tests, yeah.... I ran one yesterday at 2am for half an hour, saw all was good and jumped into fallout 4 when I was awake later at a more reasonable time. I should run it longer but I’m heavily impatient. Some say upping the voltage will help but I’m already at 1.489, AMDs already run hot enough as it is.

I’ve heard its like tuning a carburetor, there is no specific science, its fiddle till it works. Only difference is you can’t fry a carb.

Running a 2500k at 4.5GHz since 2011. I may have to take it down though, have been getting excessively frequent crashes of late. I’m going to replace the system sometime in the not so distant future, but I’d like to see if there’s Coffee Lake is any good before deciding what to build.

Do you know how long it’s been since I’ve tuned a carb? Years, at least.

Actually, the last carb I had, I failed miserably to get tuned for years. It was always off. When I sold the car, the guy who bought it came by, spent about 15 minutes on it, and had it running like butter. I hated him for that.

This was an e30 BMW 325 with a vortec V6 swap that put out more torque than the poor car should have been allowed to have...

I remember when OC’ing was a thing. Haven’t done it in years because I just buy decent Intel processors/chipsets and I’d rather have stability.

Did you ever sell your e28?

Not yet because it keeps getting pushed back, currently it is sitting on the curb with only enough insurance to cover someone vandalizing it there. I want it gone just because its making me a bit depressed.
