How reliable can new Volvos be?

Kinja'd!!!

My dad says that it’s almost time to replace our GX since it turns 15 this August. While absolutely nothing is wrong with it (other than the seat heater button light on the passenger side is out), we’ve already started coming up with a list of cars to replace it with. But I was wondering how reliable Volvos can be.

The two cars we’ve “replaced” is a 2000 Odyssey (replaced last July) and a 2000 3.2TL (replaced January 2016). So my parents are used to cars lasting in the family till they’re 15. The main cars in the running right now is:

2013 Lexus LX

2013-2015 Lexus GX

2016 Lexus RX

2017 Lexus NX

Toyota Highlander and 4Runner.

There’s kind of an obvious bias in my family. But my dad’s boss got an XC90 and my dad thinks it looks really nice. And we saw an S90 and both my parents thought it was really nice. A Volvo might be joining that list soon. How reliable would an XC90 or V90 be? Would it be able to last about 10-12 years without large maintenance issues?

Personally, I’d stick with what works. I just can’t see a newer Volvo being reliable for 15 years.

Toyota makes the best cars, so no surprise there.

Not too sure about Volvo’s reliability now since they’re no longer built ford tough. Chinese cars are kinda sketchy. And fuck Volvo for replacing the SWB S90 with the LWB (the shorty won’t be available here anymore, and the long one is made in China, and of course they didn’t lower the price on it, either)

As much as I love the new Volvos, I definitely wouldn’t expect it to be as reliable as a Toyota.

Maintenance costs will probably be higher than the Toyota products, especially if you’re in the US. But I don’t see why Volvos can’t be reliable for 15 years. Volvos, with the occasional exception, are known to last very long.

Who cares if it’s reliable, have you seen a V90?

I would have children for that car.

Funny, I was looking at Volvo’s and ended up in a gx because of reliability concerns.

I think the GX will be able to last about 10-12 years without large maintenance issues.

My V60D6 was towed once in 140k kms. But that’s a hybrid. My dad’s S60 diesel never failed him in 160k kms. Not sure how many your mum and dad will drive it in 10 years. I definitely wouldn’t regard ‘m as unreliable.

I work for Volvo and was a Lexus master tech in the past. The new XC90 is an incredible suv that truly deserves all the awards it has won (lots). It is the future of cars, today. They are reliable now in the 2018MY....... still, nothing nearly as reliable and durable as a Toyota/Lexus SUV or crossover. Go Japanese over Europe always when it comes to quality.

Lol probably :]

Those Toyota/Lexus suvs are hard to kill man. Ask any tech. But the XC90 like I said deserves all the cred it has and then some. Such a revolution in the automotive world. I mean, I can check codes and lower the windows on one at the moment it pulls in to the shop via its wireless network. Add the insane amount of safety things and the Drive-E engine wizardry, it is hard to beat. For durability and long term quality, nothing can take a Toyota/Lexus suv. Lol that’s why I asked you a while back if you have checked tham out

They last a long long time with no problems :)

If you can only afford one car for everyday driving, Toyota is the best choice. Also, check this out

My tip to you and your family.

Look into Volvo CPO. You get a 7 year, 100k mile warranty as well as some scheduled maintenance and other goodies. And, the first guy takes the depreciation for you. Volvo CPOs are actually good too, unlike Ford and Hyundai. They are all one owner clean Carfax cars. And the CPO warranty is better than the new one.

I have man and as a child nothing was better than a Toyota (Dad had a pre Tacoma Toyota 4x4).

But I cannot justify 50-80k for a vehicle that shares interior components with things like Yaris, Corollas, etc. Toyota charges Range Rover money for public restroom quality interiors.
