Kinja'd!!!

How is it? Worth $7k for a nice one? Any problems?

In other news, Ive been looking for a stand to mount my pedestal and swivel chair in the raft and ended up settling on...a christmas tree stand. Weirdly enough its absolutely perfect for it.

I do and it is reliable and doesn’t leak a drop. 1992. I paid under $5k.

Thats what I like to hear. What a great performance bargain. Any mods?

The electrical stuff around the engine is garbage. Hot garbage. Dumpster fire garbage.

Pure shit.

You will know and curse the optispark, the way the plug wires are routed, the location of the plugs, the wiring, the water pump (that kills your optispark), etc.

That said, cheap fun if you won’t need to rely on it.

Owned one before moving to Japan. Awesome car! The chassis is average, but the engine is awesome. Worth 7k$ for sure. Ideally get a 1995 or 1996 as they have a vented Optispark. If you end up needing to change your optispark, you will see that it takes a full day of work the first time, then you can do it in 4 hours without any troubles the 2nd time :)

I thought this optispark controversy was fixed after they added a vent after 1994 or something? I really liked my LT1 camaro except replacing the spark plugs when half the engine is under the windshield is not fun.

It’s really not bad in the Corvette... You have lots of space in the engine bay to work... A lot better and easier than in the Camaro...

Run away. Owned a C4. Got to the point I cut the top off with a saawzall and parted it out. True story. Then I found my ‘02 C5Z and it was the best thing that ever happened.

I recently sold my low mileage, LT1/6 speed Vette after using it as a daily driver for two years and 30k. If you’re expecting a modern car, you’ll be disappointed because you’ll never for a second mistake them for one behind the wheel. What they are is a properly quickly big-boy sports car for Miata money, but certainly not miata upkeep. They would probably not work as only car at this point, because they won’t be a change the oil every one in awhile ownership experience, and most parts beyond an oil filter or spark plugs are not going to be on the shelf at any local parts house.

7-10k is about right for a clean LT1 C4. Some things to be aware of are the Opti spark and dual mass flywheel on a 6 speed car. There are no longer ANY quality replacement optis with Mitsubishi optical pickup available, so when the original goes it will be an expensive and time consuming repair that may or may not last for any length time. Likewise, there are no more new dual mass flywheels for these cars and the tooling no longer exists. When the clutch comes dues, it will be a conversion to a single mass flywheel, expensive, and take a car with enough driveline NVH and add more to it.

Some things to look for:. Check closely that the climate works correctly. The automatic climate control box in the dash and the control module under the dash will fail on every one of these cars and there are no more new parts, but there is one company in Missouri that rebuilds them. Also take a real good look at lower ball joints and rear wheel bearings. Both have a lifespan of about 50-60k on these cars. If you’re going to track one, you’ll find that with sticky rubber rear wheel bearings have a lifespan of not more than a race weekend or two.

While I really liked and enjoyed my C4, a C5 is probably a better answer for most folks. Mine only worked as a daily driver because it wasn’t my only car.
