My girlfriend just got called by what seems to be the fax number of the local Consulate of China, and it was just a recorded message in Mandarin. Neither of us speak Mandarin, so we called their main number to see what was up. No one answered unfortunately. Maybe they just randomly call people with Chinese last names, who knows.

Maybe someone put down a wrong phone number on some paperwork, and put hers by mistake?

Yeah that’s quite likely

No, but they would randomly pull us into government buildings in remote areas to ask us questions with fake smiles.

Apparently they’ve been robocalling a lot of Chinese citizens, warning them to stay out of large America cities in the coming days. Probably someone typed in your phone number by accident, (reversed 2 digits by mistake).

I’m assuming you’re joking....that would be pretty disturbing, if you’re not

Oh it’s a crazy story, we went around China in Land Cruisers and then into Tibet. Myself and another guy were former intelligence officers, we had a Tibetan Lama with an American passport who escaped in 1959 (he wanted to go to the monastery he grew up in) and we also had Chiang Kai-shek’s grandson who was a friend of ours from Honolulu, who came as translator and history buff (masters in Chinese history). I bet we sent a pretty large red flag up, but we had pre arranged visas so it’s not like we were not expected, they didn’t know our itinerary though.

Holy, that is definitely a bizzare group of people to have together.

Well it all stemmed from the Tibetan Buddhist center Kagyu Thegchen Ling in Honolulu, Lama Rinchen is the head Lama there, and the rest of us went there and the zen monastery Chozen-Ji regularly. When I met Charles I didn’t know he was Chiang Kai-shek’s grandson, I didn’t know for years. Then Taiwan got a new president and he was invited to the inauguration and I found out. I lived in Hawaii most of my life.
