I honestly prefer Mazda’s design language around that time far more than their current one. It’s clean and simple. And no smiley faces.

As much as I love the hatch, and I do love it, I think the first gen sedan looked even better. Less useful, certainly, but with the spoiler it looked damn good. Of course, I’m biased. My wife bought one a couple months before we met. Damn good car. Only got rid of it because we couldn’t all fit in her car once kiddo #2 came along.

Mine’s 11 years old and has 153K miles and I’m just starting to get bubbling around the rear wheel wells. Contemporary Chrysler products are much worse.

They went too tall on the grill. The 6 has basically the same front end, but the grill doesn’t cover nearly as much of the front of the car and I think it works much better.
That said, I would upgrade my 06 2.3 L 5-speed for a 17 2.5 L 6-speed in a heartbeat if I had the means to do so.

The 3 is weird in that the grille is tall and from several angles the bonnet looks massive, where as when you look at it from the side, it’s not so big but the rake of the windscreen gives it the weird look.
It’s like something heavy has sat at the top edge of the windscreen and it’s caved in.

That is exactly what I daily - 09 5dr hatch S sport, 2.3 MZR, manual, silver... It’s not the fastest, but it is the most fun car I’ve ever owned. And I love the lines.

It makes me sad to think about it. Such a damn good car. Served me well for six years. But, my son’s car seat would’ve been a giant pain in the ass to fit in there on a daily basis. I needed/wanted more safety features, too. Alas, I have the 6 “dad car.”
