It ‘collided’ with a Philippine vessel, the ACX Crystal (container ship).

I don’t want to make light of it as there are still seven seamen missing, but how the hell did the two collide?

The vessel is 222.6metres long.

It was 2:30am in Japan.

They would of came up on each other radar.

To your statement: exactly. That is his defining trait. Not your usual kind of hero.

I had to look it up, but yes, that’s a remarkable photograph, and once I learned who he was, I did a little reading. I was 9 years old when this movie came out, but wasn’t very aware of the news at the time. So learning that this movie was shot at time when American intelligence agencies were under Senate investigation makes the film all that much more timely.

What I liked best about the film is how it showed that intelligence work has not so much to do with cloak-and-dagger ops, but with keeping informed about “everything” - and reaching the big picture through analysis.
