This is another day which is brought to you by Alfa Romeo.

Mk1 166:

Kinja'd!!!

Mk2, from 2003 to 2007

Kinja'd!!!

Top trivia: Alfa never made diesel models in rhd, because something got in the way, and consequently abandoned the rhd market two years before production ceased because absence of a diesel reduced the demand to unsustainable levels. Not that production was ever profitable as only about 92,000 were made over a nine year life.

After production ceased in Italy the tooling was sold to a Chinese company.

I haven’t seen one for ages, because at least twelve years old and larger cars always get scrapped first.

I see a couple of silver Mk2 estates on a regular basis.

They are a car that when I see them, I think, ‘that looks good’, but as soon as it’s out of sight, I completely forget the car exists.

They never made a 166 estate. The 156, yes.

A friend of mine owns a MK1 2.4 8 valve JTD for 10 years now.Hi is the 2nd owner and he bought it with 250k kms on the clock.Since he racked up an other 300k kms [80% brutal city driving].The original flywheel went at 300k,the head cracked at 500k.About 4 years ago a drunken new years eve he was waiting for a taxi in front of his mate’s apartmant building, where he parked his 166 before the party,to get home.It was freezing cold,so he sat in the 166 and fired up the engine to get some heat while the taxi arrives. He had fallen asleep with his size 10 sneakers on the accelerator and the engine bouncing off the rev limiter. This was at 5AM.His mate upstairs woke up around 7 AM for the noise downstairs. He looked out the window and realised what happened and ran down to wake up my friend. So the good old JTD engine spent 2 hours on the rev limiter and only the thermostat packed up.
