Kinja'd!!!

My dad’s first accident in 37 years. Needless to say, he’s not pleased. I probably shouldn’t post too many details until fault has officially been determined, ICBC has been known to creep people’s social media to find any reason to weasel out of paying claims.

Is everyone okay? That sucks especially since it’s a wagon.

Yeah no one was hurt, too low speed for that. Yeah, he really likes that car. He’s put a lot of money into making it better than Ford did

Might just need a new hood and some latching assembly stuff? Possibly close to a writeoff due to the value of these, but maybe easy to fix as a DIY project if he loves the car.

Like if they find this post by searching our last name, and I had stated how the accident went and it was contradictory to what my dad told ICBC, they might start throwing insurance fraud accusations around. Or any number of things. I just know, allegedly, from an aqquaintance who works there, that they have employees whose main job it is to search social media for things that could let them pay out less, or not at all. Especially around injury claims. I don’t imagine they will be with something as minor as this with no injuries, but you never know.

Yeah even if they total it, he wants to keep and fix it. It needs a hood, left headlight assembly, and the whole brace/rad support that the latch is mounted on, it’s all kinked in and pushing the battery back. Oh and probably the bumper cover, the pieces that mount it that bent brace are broken.

Wow, that’s just...slimy.

Yup. They’re also upping the cost of insurance, again. They’re constantly trying to get and save more cash through whatever means possible, and claim they’re having money problems because the accident rate is so high. In reality, it’s because the provincial government absorbs most of their profits into general funds, so they can pretend they have a balanced budget. They’re doing the same thing with BC Hydro.

I just thank my lucky stars that I have USAA here in the States. I’ve always felt they are on my side.

That has to be a good feeling. When I was injured in an accident in 2015, I had to get a lawyer to get any sort of settlement from them. A friend of mine has been fighting with them for 4 years trying to get anything for his chronic neck problems from getting rear-ended really badly.

USAA is available only to service members and their families. They are in a class apart in the insurance industry. I feel quite blessed, if you can say that about any insurance company.

Ah yeah now I see the light and bumper. Still not too bad to DIY, if one is in love with the car. The settlement would be paltry anyway.
