Seeing a comparison like this without an Evo in the mix hits me right in the feels :(

Poor Evolution. Kicked to the curb by Mitsubishi and forgotten by all. If you could have just held out a little longer, look at all the new friends you would have made! *sob*

Mitsubishi are basically doing everything to shoot themselves in the foot. Going crossover-only may is absolutely idiotic. Gas isn’t going to be cheap forever. The Evo wasn’t really a big moneymaker for Mitsubishi, but the Lancer lineup was. Getting rid of all the Lancer lineup is just dumb.

This should be a racing series. Evo or not what a lovely line up.

To be fair, every single thing they sold was at least a few years behind most competitors. There were way more problems than just dropping the sedans.

I’ve heard that Mitsubishi has actu been doing fairly well (?), but until they bring back an Evo I don’t even care enough to confirm or deny that statement

Triathlon style. Tarmac, rally, and snow each being a third of the total track.

Mitsbushi’s products were all pretty decent when they were introduced, problem is they keep models around 15 years before updating them. The final Lancer lasted 10 years without any update more substantial than new headlights. Even Dodge and Chrysler update their lineup more often.

2016 Evo, 5 speed manual.

Yep, agreed.

What’s an “Evo”?

This. They couldn’t keep up with the tech, (relative) luxury, and fit and finish offered by their modern rivals. Especially the Golf R.

Not only the Evo, but we REALLY should be able to put an RS3 up in there, but no...Audi won’t let us.

And don’t get me started on the fact that Chevy won’t let us have a Cruze SS hatchback with the turbo-4 out of a Camaro and a little extra boost.

Those are two more brands that should be in the conversation, but aren’t, for dumb reasons.

A hopped up VW Golf has a higher redline (but less peak torque) than a Honda with the Type R badge—what is this, opposite land?

The new impreza has a cvt or 5 speed.

Yeah, don’t get me started on that. I’m disappointed in Honda for not making the type R crazier. I don’t care which of the hot hatches is the better car, but I want my type R to make driving an Sti feel like borrowing grandma’s prius.

So much this. How in 2016 is a top tier performance sedan still being sold with a 5spd Manual? What is this 2003? What should happen is Nissan should fully buy out Mitsubishi, and they can joint venture the next Lancer Evo/ Altima Spec-v. Both can run on same platform, just make the Mitsu the more gnarly performance beast and let Nissan sell the Spec-V to compete with AWD other cars aka A4, Xdrive 3 series, etc etc

That is a base impreza. Not a STI. A lancer would make a better comparison to what you mentioned.
