Kinja'd!!!

I was behind this debadged Mercedes for a while this morning, and had a heck of a time trying to figure out what it was. It’s amazing how similar the C, E, and S all look. I’m *pretty sure* I know exactly what it is now - class and engine- but I didn’t even have the class right originally. Can you get it without searching the internet?

No using the Googles!

E350 (I don’t even know if that’s an engine on the E class)

LWB S class. lights and wheel look too small for E, and rear door is MASSIVE.

Nope - I was behind it for a couple of miles and thought for sure it was an S550, but it’s not.

Don’t think it’s a 43, since those don’t have the chrome strip I think. Wheel size looks too small for 63(S).

I’m going with 400 4MATIC.

E300. No dropping line like the C and S.

They moved to 100s I think for North America, all the 50 trims are gone. 300, 400 are the only regular trims, then 43, 63, 63S.

Saw your other post, I think it’s an E300 because it’s missing the E43 wheels (those are base Sport package wheels), night package and rear spoiler.

I think he bolted on the exhaust outlet since it’s part of the diffuser and not the actual exhaust.

Kinja'd!!!

I actually think it is an E43. It had the exhaust tips as shown above, and those wheels are available on either the E300 or E43 — as options either way. If you go to the website and build an E43, the standard wheels (not these) are the same wheel as the E300 - oddly.

Unless they swapped the exhaust tips, I’m pretty sure it’s an E43? Missing from the pic, but they’re the split type.

Fair enough- the ultimate tell would be what did it sound like? The TTV6 sounds way different/better than the garbage T4 on the E300.

Heck if I know - -traffic was slow, and I had everything closed up and the stereo cranked up. The one thing that makes me think it’s an E43 is the tips - which I don’t *think* are available on the E300, and I’m just assuming that if anyone was posing, they’d have thrown on one or two (or 15) AMG badges, instead of just debadging.

Possible. But I’m not really getting the 43 vibe from it. Can’t put my finger on it though.

It is an E300 with the Sport package. I guarantee it. Those wheels aren’t on the E43, every E43 has a lip spoiler, every E43 has black window trim. Not sure what to tell you about the exhaust, but it definitely isn’t an E43.

Now I know what to tell you about the exhaust. The chrome trim around the reflectors in the lower rear bumper is not a Mercedes option. A quick Google led me to an Aliexpress listing for them. Also available? Split exhaust tips.

All E43 sedans have black window trim, black wing mirrors, and a trunk spoiler. That looks like an E300 since it has chrome window trim, white wing mirrors, and no spoiler.

Additionally, the E43 has chrome trim on the tops of the door handles, while the car you took a picture of doesn’t have that. The E43 also has a front fender badge which I guess could be removed but I don’t see why.

Those look way more like the 18" wheels from the E300 in terms of size and style. They really don’t look like 19" wheels in general. Also the standard 19's on the E43 have a slightly different design which is solid polished metal all the way around around the hub, while that car seems to have a dark painted section around the hub like the 18" from the E300 sport pack.

Just my evidence that it’s an E300.

I’m not either - but what’s weird is if you go to MBs website, you can build an E43 even more bland than this one if you want.

Sadly it’s impossible to tell from this pic. If the exhaust “outlets” are styled like a 4 outlet exhaust, it’s a 43. Otherwise it’s a 300.

OK - it is an E300, you’re right - - for some reason, MB’s configurator was doing some wonky things on me last night and was showing the same base wheels on the E43 and E300. The chrome trim and body mirrors are the giveaway. MB does offer a fender badge delete on the E43, for anyone who wants it, but it’s hard to imagine anyone taking it.

It’s really hard to tell, but see Audistein’s post - it fooled me, due to the 4 outlet fake tips, but it’s an E300.

Had a feeling. Look how easy and cheap it is to swap out the exhaust tips in the diffuser literally plug and play: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Stainless-Steel-Rear-Dual-Exhaust-End-Pipe-Sticker-Cover-Trim-For-Mercedes-E-Class-W213-E200/32794120248.html

Can’t hate on the guy though, it’s a cheap and easy mod that improves the looks of the car for sure.

I get that it’s easy, but I’m kinda biased in that I don’t like all these fake tips that everything seems to have these days- including my DD. So I’d never think to swap them out, personally.

Yes and no, wagon is still E400.

And a correction, there are two 50 trims, the hybrid 350e and 550 V8.

Yup - although I was originally fooled into thinking it was an E43. And from behind, I could have sworn it was an S550. The new E classes are still fairly rare around here - but not for long (previous gen is EVERYWHERE).
