I ask because I’m considering going into the IT field and figured I should get to know stuff and stuffs and such.

IT field is super broad. What are you interested in? Health care IT? Networking? Help desk/tech support? Security/administration?

I mean, other than that I can’t really help other than tell you narrow your focus and then research certs for your desired field and pursue them

Like periodicals? PC Mag is my favorite.

Like studying for certifications? The All-in-Ones by Mike Meyers were the ones I passed A+ and Network+ with.

Meh, not true. Some people grow into their fields, while others have this shit all planned out.

Maybe start with A+. Even though a lot of it isn’t really needed to know anymore (like IRQ assigments), at least you’ll understand how a computer works.

There’s a lot of network admins, programmers that don’t understand the hardware. They couldn’t replace their hard drive if it failed. No matter what direction you go, I think it’s nice to know the fundamentals of a PC.
